David Moyes has revealed a triple injury boost.
Victor Anichebe, Phil Jagielka and Mikel Arteta have all taken major steps in their recovery from serious knee injuries.
Striker Anichebe and midfielder Arteta are now back in training while Jagielka has been running as he continues his recovery from a second knee operation.
Anichebe and Arteta, both out since February 2009 with knee injuries sustained in the same game at Newcastle, have been able to step up their rehabilitation this week.
The development has delighted Blues boss Moyes who has been battling an extensive injury list all season.
“It is having a really positive effect on me!” the manager told evertonTV. “To see all those players back in training it feels like I have made five or six new signings this January! I feel fantastic.
“Victor Anichebe has done a little bit of training with us. Mikel Arteta joined in yesterday (Thursday) with no contact.”
Moyes was also able to report that Jagielka, out since April 2009, was back running after a cartilage problem forced him to have a second operation on his injured knee in November.
“Phil Jagielka has been out running this week too while Dan Gosling and Jack Rodwell have also started their running again,” added the manager.
And there was further good news with shorter term hamstring injury victims Sylvain Distin, Jack Rodwell and Dan Gosling all nearing a return.
“Also Sylvain Distin isn't too far away,” continued Moyes. “As far as the group of injured players are concerned I am just starting to see the shoots of recovery. I am hopeful we will see them back in the not too distant future.”
With Landon Donovan joining the Club this week and Moyes still scouring the loan market, the manager is hoping for significantly increased squad numbers sooner rather than later.
“I would still in an ideal world like to bring in one possibly two more because who knows maybe these players won't get back in time,” he said.
“I saw them all out today but I have seen them out before and they then had set backs. I have got to hope that this time this is the one for real.”
