Our central midfield is awful and needs to be massively overhauled. I can't see us achieving much if we are relying on Barry again next season. His days at the top are long gone, he wouldn't get into any top 8 side. He would possibly get a game at ninth placed Stoke, but wouldn't get a game at 10th placed Chelsea.
He is a good player. But if we want to be at the top all of our centre mids need to jib.

someone on rawk reckons he's broken his leg. I doubt it's true but just wondering if anyones heard the same ? Im guessing not due to the lack of activity in this thread.

I still think Besic is the kind of Big Dunc, Rhino, Jags type of player we need in the team, with a mean turn, tackle and passing ability. But how do we get him going without enough regular game time? I don't think he's a replacement for Barry, but we will have to change the way we play with or without Barry anyway. He does more than Mcarthy, and less than Barry, and forget Gibson, who wants to be some kind of Pirlo, but what's the point for 20 minutes per month? Is Witsel a LOT better than what we've got, including the young players ?

he bummed city senseless first leg and left that little ginger bellend de bruyne in about a thousand pieces

wicked eye for a pass, terrier like work off the ball
play him at n10 and watch oppo defences [Poor language removed] themselves and refs grow a spine and stop booking him for winning the ball with a good old school tackle

besic is a monster

barrys replacesment, you think barry played with that level of awarenesss and gamesmanship at 23?
besic shows similar attributes to be developed plus he's absolutely mental

i'd stick him alongside barkley in the opening game with instructions to throw in an early reducer on erikson and son't let him breathe a breath you haven't breathed first lad
then watch spurs crash and burn in a cauldron of noise with no outlet and 35k rabid evertonians screaming their silly cockney arses down

There was no indication from his performances that Besic was good enough to be a starter at this level for the time being. Time will tell. I am not convinced by him. Baseically we need 2 new CM who will improve our weak area instantly.

did you watch the first leg against city? he ran the midfield and defnce, put in a tackle on de bruyne the ginger Belgian mercenary that will require hip surgery in a few years and made an absolute show of toure
also let fly with a set of beautiful 40 odd yard passes

I remembered him being subbed at half time in a game or two too. I am not writing him off but to win a starting place in CM at Everton now need much more than that. You also need to do it on regular basis.

Needs a massive season otherwise he will surely be shown the door as well. Still hopeful it can work out for him, I think we've seen enough to know that there's a bloody good player in there if he can just get a run of games and build a partnership with someone in the middle. Still remember the first leg of the semi-final against City at Goodison, he absolutely bossed the game and that tackle he put in to halt one of Toure's charges had everyone in the ground off their feet cheering like we'd score. It was for me the performance of the season of any player in the squad and if he'd have been fit for the 2nd leg we'd probably have gone through. Hopefully more of that going forward if Koeman gives him a chance.
