Muhamed Besic

Dreadful.. Looked like he couldn't be bothered. Just jogging about. And his passing was so obvious, it was easy to cut out.
Not a good way to make a claim for a starting spot really

Him and McCarthy.
Don't cancel each out at all do they.
And that old barstool Barry will now be confined to the bench or the retirement village, where those crab passes belong.

Isn't that right @Saint Domingo

Don't know why you're knocking a young player, not like you rudds. The Besic McCarthy partnership doesn't work, but as you know I've been stating many times that the Barry McCarthy partnership doesn't work consistently either.

There was no injury.

Whoever is saying that is making excuses for Besic, who has been 'fit' since returning from Dubai and looked fine against West Ham.

Besic was really poor
Fine in a game where he came on after 45 minutes and looked knackered after being on for a bit, and against a team that play much slower football?

Not saying it's 100% due to him not being fully fit, but doubt he was at any rate. You're not out for a month and a half with an injury just to return to full fitness after a week and a bit.

He played superb against West Ham.

Check the match/RM threads - I'm not making any excuses for the manager today as he was dreadful.

However, RM is not to blame for Besic's shambolic display.

I love Mo and he's going to be a cracking player, but he was so, so off the mark today it was untrue. That's down to the player.

Fair enough I guess, just didn't look that fit to me. Never seen him back out of a challenge as much as today.

What was down to the manager is him having to drop far too deep and McCarthy playing further up, genuinely think it should be the other way around as I've not seen James Mac make a threatening pass in about 3 years.

RM set the team up wrong today mate.

He tried to play Arsenal on the counter which is fine, but he gave them far too much space.

There were 15 yard gaps everywhere and they exploited that with ease.

Right starting XI - wrong tactics.

Him and McCarthy are a terrible partnership, was known before today as they're too similar and only way that would work is with a certain style of manager and a playmaker around them. Neither him or McCarthy have the knowledge or skill set to build an attack, for all of Barry's bad habits his style compliments them both better than they compliment each other.

That said he wasn't fit today and shouldn't have played, Besic doesn't pull out of challenges and the amount of 50/50s in the first half he wanted nothing to do with was a clear sign he shouldn't have been playing. Martinez is too reluctant to experiment though except for him 4231 and 343 which is a terrible formation for us so left little option other than to rush him in.

We're probably going to reach a point of deciding between McCarthy or Besic to start, we also need to start looking at getting Barkley in the deeper role because last few games he has been horrendous and out of the 2 Besic has more to him than McCarthy, McCarthy in his first season id take any day but the last year or so the energy and bite have gone and his technical ability is one of the worst out of all our midfielders.
