Not necessarily. He covers for the back four when needed, makes tackles and fouls when necessary and gets the ball to our playmakers. He is still very raw but I think he will learn from playing alongside Barry. I would agree that McCarthy is nothing like Barry. He thrives much more as a roaming box to box midfielder.

Absolutely superb and no surprise when we have a dm who actually runs behind his own defensive line with aggression when required we have the cover that defensive midfielders should give. We look so much tighter with him in the side.

Is there anything he can't do, honestly? He probably has the highest stamina currently in the squad seeing he's all over the place 90 minutes and still can afford to go back and forward to encourage teammates, can definitely pass the ball, is extremely quick for someone who plays in CDM role, can shoot the ball really well (still thinking about that volley) and is probably the best tackler in the whole league by now too.

Having Besic out there makes the game more enjoyable. You just know that special pass is in there somewhere. Now if he can just tackle like Lukaku.

I think this is what separates Besic from McCarthy and Barry. He is capable of playing many positions on the pitch due to his skill and pace. You say he is wasted in that position and I say he is similar to Lassana Diarra when he featured on Real Madrid. He plays where he needs to play, and he can play any role damned good.
