Jack Rodwell is biggest Everton talent since Rooney in my opinion, he is going to be a brilliant player and has shown signs of that tonight.

He usually far better on the ball than he was today - for him I'd say that was quite a sloppy game.

But just watch when our back four has the ball, Rodwell comes to the ball and Cahill/Fellaini drift towards the penalty box like the forward's they are. The natural instinct of a midfielder should be to come to the ball.

Rodwell was in there on his own today, there was no one helping him out in central positions. Arteta or even Neville would drop deeper and give him an option.

Bit harsh that,

You could have counted his stray passes on one hand tonight. He stepped up to the plate and played way beyond his years.

I agree, that lad must have been watching a different game to me. He didnt give that many away and in fact did really well to keep possession in tricky situations where lesser players would have given the ball away.

i never really saw him as a midfielder but i think he's growing into that role and looking very comfortable there now.

To be fair Rodwell could be a very complete player, I wouldn't say it laughable to be honest.

Pace, strength, passing ability, good with either foot, aerial ability and a decent tackler. He has alot going for him aswell as the height and frame to go with it.

He'll never be as good as Gerrard in the final third but then there different players.

He made good passes but also a few bad ones in dangerous areas which could have crippled us. Good player, bags of talent but lots to learn. I rate Carrick highly, Jacks not there yet.

How can you say he will never be as good as Gerrard in the final third when he is only 18 ? Bit naive that toccy but fair play .

Because it's not really his game, he's a deep lying/defensive midfielder.

Gerrard's far more attacking and has that 'x factor' very few players have, that ability to make things happen.

I agree Gerrard is indeed a one off , a very very special player . But Rodwell showed tonight he can indeed come from deep and win a game with a frankly worldclass goal . Rodwell looks like dynamite coming from deep . I am not saying for one moment that he will turn out to be anything like Gerrard but I will say that there is enough talent there for us to wait and see as to what type of player he will indeed turn out to be .

Indeed, he can be anything he wants.

Quite right BW. Rodwell has not found his best position yet or more realistically, most dont actually know what his best position is. He is well rumoured to become a centre back but with is performances in that position in pre-season and his performance tonight, we can all see where is strong points lie. (y)
