Moyes Watch @ Real Sociedad

It wasn't the fact that he tried, it was the way he went about it.

It wasnt him that under bid, it was woodward. The normal way of these things is manager tells board he wants a player, cheif exec negotiates.

Arsenal when successful under david deane was because deane always got the signings no matter the cost for wenger. It was when he left and the replacement was only paying what wenger told him to that they started to miss out on all the players they went for.

So blame Woodward for ebing bad at his job.

And as a business owner wouldn't you underbid in a way to see how much money the other one would sell for? You dont offer 30 million and over pay, you offer 12 and hope everton come back with the exact figure. When we didnt they panicked, but im guessing that was just woodward again.

Yes it is.

We are currently 24 years with one trophy, 70's werent great, the 50's werent great, the arse end of the 20's is when we got going and that was from a lower league and we couldnt really be picked out at the start of it all.

So yeah, do you think other clubs see us as mighty everton or simply everton who were successful once and thats it?

Neither, really. We're not one of the top, top clubs these days, but we've done enough in the game to garner more respect than most other clubs and are still a f*cking good side that other clubs definitely see as more than "successful once and that's it", unless you're the type of fan who thinks football started in 1992.

"Plucky little Everton", my arse.

And the disrespectful mouthing off in the media?

Why wouldn't he try though? Unless you rate Evra and Fabio and Buttner above Baines then you would want to sign him up for the champions.

That is the other thing people forget with this, he wasn't looting the likes of barkley and our future, he was signing the best left back in the country and why wouldn't he want to do that?

We signed Wigan's best player when Martinez came to us did we not? that is what any manager would do, Gaal signed Blind, Pellegrini tried for Shneiderlin, Moyes for Baines, Rodgers for Allen etc

or are we just playing the victim because its us?

I'm seriously not going to bother to correct the errors here, it's been argued to death (I had hoped), and still people bring this 'we did the same to Wigan' stuff up. Read the info mate please (it's all covered in the numerous threads where people don't bother reading and make that counter-factual assertion EVERY OTHER PAGE).

So was it Woodward who said he wouldn't have held back the careers of Fellaini and Baines if United had come calling while he was Everton manager? By the end of the season, Real Sociedad will become Real Boring.

It s all progaganda bollocks that are fed to them to big up their new club. He isnt going to sing the praises of Everton now he is at the champions is he? Would you have still liked martinez as much if he didnt make us sound so much bigger and better than wigan when he joined? Same as going back to rooney, he was fed all of his lines which put us down simply to get the fans on side that he was there for the club. everyone does it, even lukaku despite a lower asking price could have seen him in champsions league now.

Three things -- one, we ARE much bigger and better than Wigan, so all Martinez was saying was the truth. Two, and I reiterate (as have others), his patronizing comments about Everton and trying to get Fellaini and Baines on the cheap (regardless of what Woodward's role was, Moyes would have known the bid would be rejected as derisory) are what alienated a great many Evertonians (though his negative mindset in big matches did it for me long before then). Three, Lukaku wasn't wanted by Chelsea, he was wanted by Everton, which may not be in the CL but is still in Europe.

December 14th (assuming he hasn't been sacked by then) the Basque Derby v Athletic Bilbao. Probably his biggest hurdle in the short term.

Chelsea would have kept him but they had to sell somebody and it made better business sense to squeeze as much as they could out of the most willing club for lukaku and replace him with drogDrogba
