Moyes tactics

johnny is not a better defender than Jags imo...turns his back on shots to much, his postional play is nowere near as good as jags, would johnny have the nouse to get back on the line for that clearence in second half? nope i dont think he would of, behind fellaini Jags was MOM

brilliant performance from everyone and even more brilliant to watch it, only one comment on the tactics is that we sat far too deep for too long after the goal which could have seen them nick a goal which they didn't deserve, think jelavic was b*lloxed as well and could have done with been taking off for the last 15

Yh he ran his socks off, he wouldnt have had to work like that for any previous team....and his love for playing for EFC is shown in abundance... Can see him getting 15+ this season

They certainly had the measure of United last night. If I could have one minor quibble it's that we took the foot off the gas when we took the lead. It invited United onto us.

Might have been fatigue of course after a punishing first hour, but we'd been so on top we could easily have got a 2nd goal and put the game to bed.

Think for the first 60 minutes it was tactical perfection.

I do think it was risky after that though. I expected us to defend the lead but we, for most of it, got every man behind the ball. Fellaini should have been left as the outlet for me, because smacking it out of play or back to De Gea only means it's coming straight back at us.

That said Moyes' defence really did him proud. Jags was incredible, Distin was a brute and Hibbo did some ace trademark sliding tackles that not only stopped Evra but won us some pressure-relieving goal kicks. Weirdly Baines was the weakest out of the lot here, but to be fair he did have Nani AND Valencia to contend with on one flank, which was pretty cruel. Valencia makes every fullback look like a mug.

It's when we play the Stokes and Wigans etc, then games that aren't as open, when he comes unstuck and doesn't have a plan b.

He's had the squad for years to mix it up, just never does.

Then there's the RS of course

This

The Villa game will be completely different but nailed on Moyes will pick the same team and approach when he should be looking at Naismith/Mirallas to come in and to take the game to them. Villa are piss poor and there for the taking IF we approach it right, not, as Moyes does every away, go into just looking not to concede and hoping to nick a goal from a set piece

To be honest, our players were tired toward the end so they had to take a breather and had to slow down and defend, Man u usually good towards the end but our defending and discipline was top class.

That doesn't explain getting Fellaini back too. He showed he could win and bring down aerial balls by himself so at least with him up front we'd have had an outlet to relieve pressure or even counter.

If we'd scored in the 85th minute fair enough, but we were defending like that for half an hour. It was horrendously nervy viewing!

very true, we we're outstanding up until we scored and rested on what we had after that, could have been a whole lot worse if Jags hadn't been quality.

I'm thinking Moyes will go with the same 11 that put a shift in last night, agasint Villa on saturday... or does anyone reckon he will change things round?

I think hopefully we will get 1 or 2 goals and he will sub on Mirallas and Naismith and they can have a good run around for 35 minutes or something. Maybe.

Naismith Heitinga and Mirallas will all start I think. Neville, Distin and Osman will drop to the bench. I think Moyes showed he is starting to adjust tactics towards the end of last season. We will try to play more attacking football...

I think Fellaini drops back to Neville's spot, one of the new boys takes the advanced role. When Fellaini does take that spot, however, I think you'll see him more advanced than Neville got.
