I know there is another Moyes thread but felt due to the suicide rate currently on everton forums, i felt it needed its own thread
DAVID MOYES last night reiterated his commitment to Everton – as Bill Kenwright moved to reassure supporters over new signings.
While Moyes and his squad have continued their tour to the United States, speculation has raged back on Merseyside during the past 24 hours that he was poised to resign his post as Goodison manager.
The rumours were sparked by comments made by a disappointed Moyes after the 2-0 defeat to Chicago Fire in the early hours of Thursday morning.
But, speaking in Denver yesterday, the Scot has rubbished suggestions of his imminent departure and insists talks over a new contract could be concluded in the next fortnight.
“I am not going anywhere,” said Moyes. “I am here and intend to see the job through. We have great expectations and I hope that I am able to fulfil them.”
Of a new deal, he added: “I hope that maybe we can try and get together in the next week or two and sort something out.
“At the moment my energies are focused on bringing in new players. We have a certain amount of money to improve what we have got here.”
Moyes reckons Everton need “three or four” big money arrivals to bolster their squad, with Sporting Lisbon playmaker Joao Moutinho, Rennes midfielder Stephane M’Bai and Real Zaragoza’s Argentina striker Diego Milito high on his wanted list.
“I will not bring in just for the sake of it,” said Moyes. “We need to bring in three or four main players that are going to cost big money and my standards are that high that I’m not going to bring them down.
“We need to bring in better players now to try and help the squad. But we don’t have bundles of cash.”
The lack of new arrivals so far in the transfer window has heightened anxiety among Everton supporters.
And Goodison chairman Kenwright was compelled to release a statement yesterday reassuring fans of the continued work behind the scenes to reinforce the squad.
“Whilst I can fully understand the sense of frustration being felt by our supporters in the wake of what some perceive to be a moratorium with regard to the signing of new players, I feel it is important to make a few points,” said Kenwright.
“Our attempts to complete the signings of players we believe will improve the quality of our first-team squad continues on an hourly
basis. We have had a budget for incoming transfers since the start of the summer – and that budget is in no way reliant or dependent upon either the proposed relocation of the club to Kirkby or the sale of current players.
“Indeed, any proceeds from outgoing transfers will – you can rest assured – be added to the existing budget to strengthen our manager’s hand as he seeks to enter the transfer market.
Kenwright continued: “David and myself have been trying throughout the close season to sign those players whom he believes will help to improve the squad which achieved so much during the last campaign.
“Like everyone connected with Everton Football Club I am desperately keen to see the arrival at Goodison Park of those players our manager would like to see in a blue shirt come next season. I appreciate that waiting can be hard and that patience is invariably in short supply but we do expect to make signings before the opening of the new Premier League season.”
And breathe in, breathe out......relax!
