Sure is some reactionary stuff being posted just because we lost at Old Trafford. Sure, in the first years of his tenure we'd look to defend deep and nick a goal against big teams. That was because we didn't have the personnel to go toe to toe with them.

In recent years that's changed. We've largely had Man City in our pocket. We've beaten Chelsea, Man Utd and Arsenal, and deservedly so.

That we're getting to the latter stages of cup competitions shows that we're getting better. We never used to in the early Moyes days.

Of course experience plays a part. Look how long it took Man Utd to do anything in the Champions League. For all their money, Man City have also struggled in Europe. It takes time to gain the experience to succeed in a particular environment, and the sharp end of competitions is just the same.

Guaranteed that the more we get there, the better we'll get.
The mood changed after the transfer window if you ask me, I know thats when my kneejerking really started! The Villa and United games have added to it, whilst also showing that we needed to invest in the squad to build on the good work this season. Moyes stubborn ways have also been highlighted as the squad becomes jaded, people saw a chance to really move the club forward, as it stands its looking like that opportunity has been missed, thats why a lot of fans are finding it hard to be happy with semi-finals and 6th place.

Oh please, that's a pathetic comment based on nothing more than your agenda against the man.

Your point being???

Using the word agenda rather than opinion means you offer nothing .... par for the course with your ill tempered waffle.

If you've something to counter like a list of his Henry V rallying calls, wins at THOSE grounds or cups that we've won I'd be interested to hear. try not to spit your dummy out for once you tiresome oaf.

We've drawn too many games this season, against teams we should have beaten. Why haven't we finished them off? Personnel? Tactics?

Squad Size and Quality players coming off the bench.

If we want to change games to reach for the top 4 then we are not going to do that with 18 and 19 year old stiffs and acadmay kids on the bench.

Have a look at the subs bench for any of the top 4 teams they have top top quality to bring on the pitch. How do we change that at Everton....we need owners who will put dough into the club.

I used the word 'agenda' as that's what you have, an agenda. You post endless baseless bull**** about Moyes such as the one I've just replied to were you've labelled his attitude to the Cup competitions as "the cups can **** off".

That doesn't deserve a considered factual response as it's merely facile bollocks.

btw - oaf? lol.

We have to be realistic though don't we? When you spend the vast sums that United, Chelsea and City spend, you have every right to be at the top of the table. We don't, yet we're now competitive against these sides and are still in the fight for European places. With our budget, that's about as good as we can hope for, and largely we're doing that. We can beat the top teams, and are up there in the league.

Sure it's frustrating that we can't beat some teams that we really should be, but even the megarich sides have bad days.

It's a similar thing with the cups. History shows that the 'big four' win the vast majority of cups, and do so because they spend the most money. When other teams win it's often (not always, but often) a result of luck falling their way and giving them a good route to the final, and an easier team to play in the final.

Take the year we got to the cup final for instance. Beating Liverpool and United on the way was outstanding. Our luck ran out by drawing Chelsea in the final. I'm sure had we had a lesser team we'd have won a trophy.

Likewise with things like fatigue. Our squad is no smaller than in previous years where our 2nd half has been much stronger than the 1st. Sure people will point to Jelavic arriving last January, but our trend of finishing strongly has been quite consistent over the last 4-5 years, so it's hard to believe that with the same size squad we're suddenly losing due to fatigue.

Luck does play a major part. All those drawn games early in the season for instance, how many times did we hit the woodwork back then? I don't have stats to hand but seem to remember it being into double figures. It wouldn't have taken many of those going in and 1 point becomes 3. Small margins.

Terrific stuff, I feel your release - short on ritalin perhaps?

BTW Leeds.

Surely if you approach them the same as every other game, then they are not "BIG" games at all, just they same as any other game.

Correct me if I'm wrong but is it true that we've never beaten either Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea or Liverpool away under moyes/? hardly reactionary, more like a set trend to me, one thats obviously not been much use

That could well be true. I certainly can't remember us winning at any of those grounds under Moyes. That's shocking, really.
The 40 "Biggest" away matches without a win.

A quick blast through the stats suggests that out of the 39 matches away at the traditional Sky Big Four (Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool) we've won zero under Moyes.

Throw Man City in there and it looks slightly rosier - 5 wins from 50 played. But they've only been a decent side for 2 of those wins.

Now I'm a fan of the guy, but you can only take from those figures that Moyes doesn't have the courage to go for the win against these sides.

Yes, and this season the top four have lost six times at home, out of 52 games. That in itself should tell you that the big teams don't lose at home very often.

If you take that ratio, then we'd have won 3 of those 39 games you mention. Hardly a season changer is it?

It's not about the points, it's about the attitude.

This gurl got plenty of it:

The problem is, we're perfectly fine in the big games where we are the underdog at home, i.e. united, city and chelsea. we've won a decent amount of these games especially recently, but everytime this season we've had a fairly easy game which would take us into the top 4 with a win, we've failed to perform really. Add this to all the really big games and well who can say we've performed in any of these?

FA Cup Final, FA Cup Semi vs RS, FA Cup Semi vs 2nd string united, Uefa Cup away leg to fiorentina, Uefa Cup 2nd leg vs lisbon. Even the league derby's last season, when we were finally the better team in the moyes reign - they did the double over us. I know we were cheated with the rodwell red card but does anyone remember the kyriagkos derby? RS still won the game.

OK, yeah, we performed spectacurlly in the 2nd leg vs Fiorenta, but that was when we were already 2-0 down on aggeregate and again rank underdogs. Like ijjy says, from my POV, it is something along the lines of setup not to lose. That semi vs RS was sickening, didn't take the game to them at all. settled on a gift goal to us and tried to hang on for the whole game against a team who's confidence was shot to pieces. surprise, surprise, the pressure got to our defence and we gifted them a way back into the game
