Moutinho - all talk in here please.

If we're honest with ourselves, whilst he'd be an amazing, almost hard-on inducing addition, he's not the player we need to be spending the majority of our budget on and if Utd really want him, they're going to get him.

What sense is there in having Neville, Rodwell, Cahill, Fellaini, Arteta, Moutinho, apparently M'Bia and potentially Delph fighting for central positions, leaving us with Gosling, Osman or Anichibe down the right?!...

Moutinho's hardly going to be happy signing for us, knowing he'll likely be played out of position the whole season, or if he's not, then Arteta will have to be and neither are as affective when played out wide and none of our other guys would even be remotely useful played there.

We need a winger, a proper wide-man, whether it's Turan, Drenthe, Bentley, Trochowski, Downing, Johnson, Gutierrez or whomever else we've been tenuously linked with and I just can't see us having the funds to spend on a luxury player like Moutinho as well.

Arteta, Moutinho and Pienaar could all play left right and centre midfield, interchanging constantly and confusing the hell out of the opposition. Add in a holding midfielder to cover (Neville or, preferably, a decent import) with Cahill/Fellaini in the centre.

Against lesser teams/when we are chasing the game we could do without the holding midfielder, and against better teams play a more structured line, maybe with two holding midfielders a la Chelsea sometimes.

It would be boss and you know it.

Not one mention of him going to Utd in any of today's papers.

They're being linked with Benzema, Ribery, Valencia, Eto'o, David Silva, Robben and sorting out Tevez - but no Moutinho.

Also, after having a look at the rumours properly, Utd don't want him - it's just that Sporting can't afford Nani any other way due to their lack of cash...

If Utd really wanted him, they'd just pay for him and keep Nani anyway!...

Moutinho is highly possible due to fact that we have lower wage bill, higher season ticket sales, income from FA cup, sale of Anichebe and if you add a higher prize money for next season europa league, I'm sure we can afford him. It's not entirely misson impossible.

You would think mate, but sadly the board has already spent the money we got in last season, they spent it about 2 years ago.

Hes not coming, lets all face facts.

We do not have a lower wage in real terms, our bill is a bigger % of income than most other teams. The income you talk of is really negligible for both the FA Cup and the Europa Cup. We got sod all for our run in the UEFA Cup. Add to that the money from season ticket sales is not mega millions.

Anichebe at best would bring in 4 mill!

Anyway Moutinho does not want to come here. If he did, then no doubt he would a unhappy bunny and that would have a bad effect on team spirit.

I think he does want to come here, he said last season he was up for it and hes also said the same again this year. I dont have the quotes at hand, but he defo said he would like to come.

If only he was free. :(

EDIT

He told Setanta Sports, 'I am able to play in a foreign league and The Premier League is the best thing that could come,"

"I know several clubs are interested, but the coach of Everton wanted me last year.'

We need to sign one big player over £10 million. VdVaart, Moutinho, Veloso, Quaresma, Bentley. Which ever...

Everton - Moutinho open to Everton offer

Just because Mout says Everton wanted him last year, doesn't mean that he wants to play for Everton. He's just stating a fact, not a desire.

You're showing your age, Goat, at 67 people often get things a little muddled. (y)
