Most despised opponent

He single handedly changed the mood of Merseyside derbies. The exceptions were 84 Milk Cup and Charity Shield, and 89 Cup Final.

Otherwise a nastiness came over many rs that was not there before his 'tragic' blurting in front of many Evertonians who had come out to congratulate the rs EC win.

From this is anfield:

"(Tommy) Smith has since said he believed this caused bad blood with the Everton fans and spoilt the attendance at his testimonial shortly afterwards."

Still, may he RIP. Apparently he apologized afterwards.

…..Smith and Hughes didn’t get on so you have factor that into quotes from either.

I knew Hughes a little from my time at LFC. I’d started having hamstring troubles and would be taken from school to Anfield for treatment of a lunchtime and Emlyn Hughes would invariably come into the treatment room after training to put Vaseline on his hair.

As I’ve posted before, he was always friendly and courteous to me.

I have long ago forgiven him and pray that he is at peace.

His petulant comments were damaging but I acknowledge that he apologized.

Not sure about forgiving anyone for putting Vaseline in their hair though!! 😊

Gerrard, Suarez and Carragher. All from the same team, shows how much I despised them around this time.
Honourable mentions to Robertson and Henderson from more recent sides.

1. Diego Costa
2. Bruno Fernandez
3. Jordan Henderson

Costa was one of them that I wished played for us though, you could see him bully our defence and just admire him for it.

Rush ruined many a weekend for me, but as a bloke and a footballer I could only dispise him for his ability. Bit like when Ferdinand played against us.

gerrard and suarez for me, just horrible both of them.

I despised Rooney for many years after he left us and eagerly in joined the grief we used to give him but for me Anthony Gordon goes past him.

There's no doubt this guy downed tools as the 22/23 season went from bad to worse under Lampard. I'll never forget his 'efforts' in the last game he played for us against Southampton we he came on on as sub, gave a totally not arsed performance then needlessly gave away a free kick on the edge of the box for free kick master James Ward-Prowse to score the winner. Even the oaf that is Micah Richards called him out on MOTD that night for the way he played when he came on.

Then we have him refusing to train to force a move to the Geordies, giving a whiney interview saying how pissed off he was to be cup tied for Newcastle's 2023 Caraboa Cup final because he'd played in a 'stupid game' for us, (his actual words) the infamous 4-1 defeat at Bournemouth. Him kissing RS arse almost begging them to sign him last year then when Tuchel called him up for England he said he wanted to go to Chelsea and work with him in the summer of 2022 when he was linked with them and he was manager there. I'm sure the Geordies loved that.

Him missing that penalty right in front of the Gwladys Street was a rare great moment in the final years of Goodison.
