Moral Dilema

Pretty sure it was just because the word 'yank' was accompanied by the words 'S***house', 'gutless', and 'cowards'. As if 'yank' was supposed to be derogatory as well.

I suppose its all about context.

But ive never considered the word offensive, like the word limey, I mean thats meant to be offensive, but if I was a called a limey F, I doubt I would take offence.

That's a bit over the top. "Yankee" is a widely used slang descriptive term, and "yank" is an accepted contraction thereof: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yankee

Unless one of our american members wants to correct that, I fail to see where you've managed to find xenophobia.

Outrage by proxy is a bad habit to get into, particularly as a moderator or staff member.

It's the context...

As I said, if I found the xenophobia, he would have been banned.

Not hard really is it?

Possibly mate . As I say I think it's a bit over a over the top reaction. Never mind

No. If your derogatory towards a race/nationality, you're banned. It's really, really simple.

Of course, the word 'Yank' is fine, but not when in the context you used it. As i said in the first post,

Will assume that's meant to be descriptive, rather than xenophobic otherwise that would have been a ban.

I couldn't care less tbh. You've done what you wanted about it . Move on

You're interpreting the context subjectively. That lacks certainty, and is a little unfair. The fact that more than one person has raised this point should be making you stop and think, not dig your heels in. Find me a Yank that objects to the word Yank and fair enough, you have a point. But none of the Yanks I know mind the word Yank at all.

But it's your site, so it's your rules.

I only asked for clarity on the word Yank, it was explained as context, my only concern was have I been using an offensive word without knowing. Wouldnt wanna upset our last 16 Yank Brothers.

Find me an instance where I said the word Yank is offensive?

He's a stupid scouse prick
He's a stupid yank prick

No different to;

He's a stupid black prick

^ @efcarentwe needs to understand that, because the moment you place a nationality in a derogatory manner you'll be challenged - in the same way you would someones skin or sexuality.

First, don't tell me how to post on here.

Secondly, I'm replying to someone.

Thirdly, I'm glad you've now understood. You're welcome I took the time to describe it, rather than allowing you to make the same 'mistake' twice and being removed from the forum.

Carry on.

When someones nationality (or skin colour, or sexuality etc etc) gets inserted into abusive comments made towards them then that abuse becomes xenophobic, racist or homophobic abuse.

I think GOT was lenient really saying the word Yank was used descriptively. If someones a *rude word* gutless coward then what does their nationality have to do with it? Why even mention it?

You abuse an American and insert Yank into that abuse and i bet they won't be happy. You call them your yank friend and i bet they won't care at all.

It's context, and this context was in the middle of abuse.
