Well he's one injury or suspension away from starting.

He'll start in the next cup tie I'm sure.

It's part of being a squad. We've invested a lot in him and he's going to play with far better players this season than he did last.
Ya. But if he doesn't get a start in the next 5 or 6 league games he is not going to improve. He has not shown enough here yet ..maybe he will in time . But a loan where he might start 25 plus games would surely improve him.

Whats taken a penalty like a man? In my head I'm imagining Julian Dicks!

In all seriousness though, the run up for his penalty is really the least of my concerns with him tonight.

Aye, missing from four yards out is mine.

First half he was poor because it looked like he was trying too hard. Second half he actually kept things simple and worked hard for the side, up against four grocks playing in a really wide 4-2-3-1 with no support from midfield until late on.

It was a 6/10 display. Did some things well, some things very poorly. Glad he got his goal and was unlucky (with the final chance) not to get a second.

he is a kid who is learning and an Italian international, those that doubt his commitment..

They probably got annoyed that everytime they did it was either pinched off him or miscontrolled so thought it was better to pass to Gordon and Neils on the overlap instead!
I'd almost buy that if I hadn't watched them be completely unable to do it all last season too.

I mean what are you basing that on?

His last three starts for us have come in January, July and now today. He's scored in each one of them.

It wouldn't, unless he goes to a team in which he is going to play to his strengths. Playing as a lone striker against a team that sits deep and doesn't create space for him to run into is not his game, nor is he built for it to be his game.

The fact of the matter is, when you’re a fringe player blatantly not first choice, when you get your opportunities you need to take them. He needed to impress for me but he didn’t. Things just sometimes don’t work out

Basing what on mate?
Why does he not get more starts if he is showing that much.
For most of tonight he was very poor . He scored a penalty. I would not let that cloud my judgement on his performance. He has at times shown he can be a good player. But he was also shown at times he has been poor .

I don’t think he lacks commitment, but if you are depressed and lack morale, sometimes it’s difficult to turn it around. From what I saw today, the rumors about him being unhappy make sense

Tbf the number of times the 3 midfielders played a ball into him was probably in the single digits which is part of the issue.

this. He is playing in front of our worst possible midfield combination. Through ball were non existence and all he can do is lurk like a lump up front. He is not that type of player and never will.
