2020/21 Moise Kean

I suppose it depends how they view him as a player though. Just because we paid £27m for him doesn't mean he's worth it to someone else. I said back in January:

'My hope would be that we wouldn't entertain a bid for Kean because we think he can come good, but if we let it be known he could go, any club willing to offer more than half what we paid would have to have Steve Walsh in charge. The second we say he can go we're admitting that he can't make it here. We have no bargaining power in that situation and would likely accept a loan with a £18m or something option. We've seen it happen before, it shouldn't be a surprise to anybody.'

This is the reality of transfer fees, everybody from Klaassen to Walcott is theoretically 'worth' more than we sold them for, but convincing somebody to pay the fees we'd want in an ideal world is a different matter.

I totally agree with the point regarding the disparity between values but here it's being reported that the option to buy is £18m.

I'd be surprised if a 20 year old Italy international has a price tag of 9m less than what we paid given if he goes to PSG and doesn't get in ahead of Icardi, Mbappe and Neymar, he's still probably worth more than 18m.

It doesn't add up to me but I'm open to being wrong on it of course.

I think it's likely PSG would want to know if we are open to a sale if he does well and i'd imagine the answer from us was yes. But I maintain I don't think it will be 18m.

Just on Kean generally, I do feel for him a bit because it seems like he was brought in as DCL's replacement.

I don't think Silva was ever sold on DCL (as the rumours are that he wanted Mandzukic too). I think Kean was brought in view a view of being our CF for the foreseeable future.

What happened was, we didn't look great at the beginning under Silva which then descended into us being absolutely wham. Silva sacked, Ferguson comes in and immediately makes DCL his main man.

Kean hasn't really recovered from that. He's certainly not deserved to start over DCL for the majority of time (although there was a period after lockdown that I wish he'd been afforded more opportunities).

This season DCL has started on fire and Kean hasn't even maintained his League Cup place. I don't blame him if he's thinking he needs to play more (even if cups) before the Euros to ensure he's in the Italy team.

I don't think he'll be back here, personally.

It’s not looking likely. I hope he comes back good. But I think Kean is really up against it considering he and Carlo have already had a few issues. While I feel this was the right move for him considering the circumstances, I don’t think he is winning Carlo over by asking to go out on loan.

I got the impression quite early on that Kean was a Brands signing, and that Silva didn't want him.

It seems a long time ago now, but the early part of last season saw Calvert-Lewin, Tosun and Richarlison rotating as the central striker, with Silva showing zero interest in integrating Kean.

Even when he was clearly on the verge of losing his job, Silva continued to overlook someone who is (I think) the second-most expensive striker in the club's history.

There was something up there for sure. Duncan didn’t fancy him either and obviously told DCL he was the main man. Carlo must have sanctioned his move to PSG so he probably wasn’t too fussed, which is odd considering it leaves us a bit light at CF.

They paid a €2m loan fee?

There are articles today stating that PSG can buy Kean for £18m next summer if they want to, not sure how accurate this is, the article also states that we paid £25.1m for him, which from what I can find is probably correct. I think he could be worth that, in a seasons time as he would be going into the 3rd year of his 5 year contract.

I hope he does well while he is at PSG and either returns to us or gets a move elsewhere. its not good for players to keep going out on loan, 1 year is OK, but not beyond that, I think they then are in danger of becoming another "Sandro"
Well he’s already got a similar strike rate to Sandro
