Modern culture ruins modern football

I hate modern football in that, in the old days a manager would resign if he was struggling and knew he was out of his depth. Nowadays they have 5 year contracts and know that if they ride it out they will get a big fat pay off!

I can't remember the last time a manager resigned (unless perhaps they were already tapped up first).

A nonsense culture that demands instant success. Howard Kendall in '82 wouldn't have lasted 5 minutes.

The media are delighted they have their story while we once again pick up the pieces.

Utter, utter nonsense.

While this is probably more true than will be credited, you can't mistake Silva's performances for what they aren't, and what they aren't is improving even towards mediocrity.

I looked up Moyes earlier and was reminded that he resigned when he relegated Sunderland. Not *exactly* the same, but of course he did resign.

I hear your pain.

One of the things I noticed is the person who shout the loudest is more than likely never been able to play a game of football or even understand it.

I think we now in a serious relegation battle. We have a mish mash playing squad to choose from and a club lacking direction or ideas to get out of this mess. Dark clouds are heading our way.

Silva was a shyte manager who was rightly dismissed for a shocking run of results.

There’s nothing to get up in arms about.

It’s no different to what happens to any employee who turns out to be crap at their job in any other business.

We (successive boards) missed the global market audience gravy train - that is why we will never compete again in this current football format.
The lines have been drawn
Pretty much this. The premier league is a huge global brand and switched on clubs tapped into this early doors.

What concerns me is the way journalists on social media go out of their way to unsettle managers and get them sacked

Both Spurs, Everton and Arsenal had journalists writing articles indicating managers should be fired before they were
They try their hardest to stir things up to generate clicks and then criticize teams for sacking managers, as if they're not the ones turning the fans against them in the first place.
Even the BBC sport website has an article about how Everton has turned into a soap opera right now, just after their writers spent weeks trying to provoke Silva's sacking

Lol. The same Marco who agitated for a move from Watford as soon as we showed some leg? No one is innocent in this game. He showed his disaster tendencies at Watford after that too. We had our chance to take note, but didn't. More fool our board.

Agree with the sentiment. I can’t stand the constant negativity around the club. If we’re being honest, the fans revel in it. Sort of like City did pre-investment, but it didn’t take long for them to shake it off when the right footballing processes were put in place.

He didn't turn out crap, the evidence was there before we hired him to say that he was already crap.

I reckon we need a big personality in to change the whole mindset of the club and fans, we're a defeatedbunch, we need a bit of cockiness and arrogance, a tvvat, as well as your tactical nous etc

Always amazed by how many people think it’s so obvious that so many managers are crap before they come to Everton. But where are the shouts for managers who are going to come in and be brilliant?

It wasn't the best cv beforehand but we appointed him so I supported him, the point I was mainly making though is that we go for the nice personalities, we need someone to shake this club up, we have a defeatist mindset running through the club. A big personality is all that can change that. In terms of name, no idea, I don't follow footy outside of Everton and a bit non league but even if I did I'm just a fan on a pc with zero say so it wouldn't matter anyway..
