Boy, two dynasties dropping like flies...Houston and NE. The Revs just lost probably the most complete midfielder in the league in Shalrie Joseph to an "indefinite leave of absense". He entered the league's substance abuse and behavioral health program.

Our band-aid midfield now is anchored by a rookie who-the-hell-is-this-guy Senegalese named Niouky and Pat Phelan. PAT-freakin'-PHELAN. At least our new Serbian Perovic looks like he may do the business in the hole behind the strikers.

I went a couple of years back when Chicago hosted Sevilla, Regina Calcio, Wisla Krakow and Deportivo Toluca.

La Liga, Serie A, and Polish and Mexican club teams - attendance was horribly poor - easily less than 10K. Considering Chicago is home to the largest Polish population outside of Poland, oodles of Mexicans and a decent soccer community, turn out was abysmal. Maybe it'll be better at Toyota Park which holds about 1/5 of Soldier Field's capacity.

Sadly, the Fire still are not a big draw here, PSG is intriguing, Warsaw? and the only thing I know about Red Star Belgrade is that is where Moyes found Segundo Castillo - the largest thighs this side of anywhere.

Well done. I had actually considered going back and editing it to include DC, but didn't pull the trigger.

Hey, at least DC won their Open Cup prelim. against Dallas, right?

Yeah, but I missed it cause I was watching the Caps game. :(

and I forgot to say, DC United resigned Luciano Emilio yesterday for a couple months.

i know this is prob a stupid question but does the m.l.s have a match of the day type programme i watch the philly games but cant really get to see the other teams and ive found that the standard of football in the m.l.s suprisingly high no disrespect meant

Not too much taken. MLS standard is probably somewhere about that of the Scandanavian leagues -- good but not great MLS players can move from starting for MLS clubs to start for mid-table Scandanavian clubs.

Clint Dempsey was NOT the best player for the Revs when he was there -- Shalrie was and is. So there is some quality there, although Clint's game has developed since he went to Fulham, and Shalrie's has not improved as much.

At the high end, the 2005-2006 Revs and Houston had first XI's that could have compared well with lower-level Premiership sides. (Issues of squad depth mean that NO MLS club is anything like a Premiership club -- the drop in form from 11 to 13 is dramatic)

But I would have taken a fully-fit 2006 Revs or Houston against the bottom 7 or 8 of the Premiership in a one-off any time.

DC United just got their first win tonight, 2-1 against KC Wizards. Bill Hamid, making his MLS debut, became the youngest keeper to win at 19, beating Tim Howard by 4 days.

Havent seen much of NE Revs so I can't comment on them but I saw Houston alot because of their success they were always on the tele. Houston could win in a cup game no doubt but day to day in the prem no way. I would say that Houston would have been a top 1/2 side in the Championship. DeRosario would have been a top 5-10 Championship player and Ching could score 15 in the Championship however I can't see Houston's front line being able to score much against the kind pace that prem has.

I'll stump for my home town club, the New England Revolution. It is really frustrating to see how limited our resources are every season, but I can't say enough about Nicol as a manager, even if he is a former Red [Poor language removed]. Here is a great article on why:

Nicol is a good guy and I like him too. After Bradley leaves/gets fired I wouldn't have a problem with him if he gets the national team nod.

That is accurate.
