Bizzare to think we will likely finish only 1 place behind last year. Though I think this is more a testament to the gulf in quality in the league rather than us actually significantly turning the season around.
We were 7th last season, by a huge margin. Even with a sizeable blip early season and a poor finish.

Allardyce has done what he does best, steady the ship. But I really can't face the thought of him or him being here for another season.
His ego and complete disconnect with the fans for starters. His treatment of Lookman (one of our brightest young talents) and of course the style of play.

I can take boring football all day if it yeilds results, despite what the media biffs say about us. But anyone who's watched any of our games recently will know it's more than boring football. It is pure anti-football. Static midfield incapable of stringing 2 passes together, attackers who seem afraid to have a shot at times and an isolated striker forced to constantly track back into midfield to receive the ball.

We have beaten teams with Sam in charge, not by being significantly
better or playing well, but by simply being slightly less crap than our opposition. Yesterday's result is a prime example of that.
It really is something when you can say, without irony, that the best passer of the ball in the team is your goalkeeper...

Granted, the rot started well before Sams arrival. I would even go back as far as the end of last season where you could see the performances and attitude of certain players drop.
But that does not let him off the hook. We have steadied, but have barely improved. If Moshiri is truly serious about us stepping up as a team, then Allardyce is nowhere near the standard we need.

Thanks for the ship steadying fatso, but don't let the door hit you on your enormous arse on the way out.
people forget only the top 5 are guaranteed european football, circumstances last season led to 7th being a european spot, same as this season

not every year 7th will be a european spot

the aim isn't to finish 7th and try to get europe, the aim is to try and break into the top 5 so we don't need to rely on other factors to allow us to play in europe.

Personally I'm not in a rush to get rid of him. Not because I'm a fan of his brand of football, but because I believe he is the manager we deserve as a club right now and we need to take our medicine. Yes, we have sunk to that sort of level. He's got a contract and unless he's failed to meet some specified minimum level then the club should honour the deal they first struck, or at least re-negotiate and come to an agreement for him to leave.

FS's Everton have earned 39 points from 22 Premier league games since he was appointed (Huddersfield at home, 2 December, lying 13th)
That's 1.77 points/ game
Repeated over 38 games that would be 67 points

This season,
City are top with 3 games to go on 91 points - maximum potentially 100
Chelsea are 5th with 3 games to go on 66 points - maximum potentially 75
Arsenal 6th have 4 games to go on 57 points - max 69
Burnley 7th have 2 games to go on 54 points - max 60
Everton 8th have 2 games to go on 48 points - max 54

If with transfers we kept pace with our present standing against other clubs, 67 points might be 6th or 7th.
Good enough?
NO from me.
Who can do better?

[hope the maths is right]

What is good enough for you? And in general what is good enough for us? And I don’t mean “nothing but the best is good enough” fist pumping, I mean what can we actually expect to realistically achieve? Top 6 were away from us last season and this year we’re even further away. Despite spending a lot more money as well than usual. We broke 70 points under Martinez and even that didn’t get us top 4. With the points totals the top 4 this year will get, we’d probably need about 75 points minimum to be in with a shout next season of champions league. Until we properly sort out our away form that’s very unlikely.

Next season we’d do well to finish 7th and actually have a go at one of the cups.

Also people seem to be happy we don’t have Europe next year because it’ll give us af clearer run in the league to... qualify for Europe? That’s just stupid. Given how we embarrassed ourselves this season, we’re nowhere near a champions league club so need as much Europa league practice as we can get in the next few years.

8th in this league is nowhere. The bottom 11 teams are crap. But still at least we've stabilised from the early shambles. But we can and must do better. That includes manager.

I'd take a top six finish right now.

We haven't finished top 6 since Martinez's first season in charge.
