No way that is true as McCarthy is obviously rubbish as quite a few here lead us to believe. And there's no way Manchester United would be interested in a player that helped a team get relegated.

I keep reading this point, but Wigan were only three points adrift of Southampton in the final table. A couple of different results could have seen the Saints relegated instead with the likes of Shaw, Lallana, Schneiderlin etc and you can bet that PL teams would have been enquiring about some of them. A relegated team doesn't necessarily consist entirely of poor players.
