Here in Malta we have a similar thing, but for citizenship (full Maltese passport- EU wide Shengen travel for all these dubious Eastern Europeans and Arabs, costs about the same as Trump is peddling). Meanwhile I can apply for citizenship for a fee of 500 Euros with no guarantee of success and no reason given for refusal, but allowed to apply multiple times. Bloody brexit, was all fine with full freedom of movement throughout the EU. Btw, been here for nearly 20 years, all the family is here (Daughters and grandkids etc), and all working and paying taxes here. Rant over, sorry for the vent.
