Can someone explain why for the whole of my life the word has been adaptation and in the last 18 months people have started saying adaption?

I get looked at like I'm some sort of heretic when I correct them.

I caught an old QI last night and Mr Fry said there are about four times more words in English than there are French. Now considering they have so many doubles for masculine and feminine erm, 'things', that sure is some going.

Many versions of English are spoken round the world, more than French I would think?
Then there are those that use it as a common 2nd language

You mention it's monstrous and ever growing vocabulary...and yet, you get one of those Instruction booklets in many languages
8 time out of 10 it is the English version that is as short or shorter than the others.

Monstrously discriptionaly verbal but at the same time - when required - concise.

Just to make you feel better. Near Toronto. We got 8" of snow on Sunday, will get another 8" on Wednesday and will get another 4" on Saturday.

Just for some more contex. The high on Monday will be -13 Celsius. The low will be -16. Toasty.
