You can get a head start by getting into a job or trade early. I know plenty of people who have benefitted from this mate. Quite a few people I know holding well paid positions wouldn't have them if they went to uni.
its interestin coz it really is basically the opposite for me

i feel like these arguments often end up in people justifying their decision to go/or not go to uni, but i think ive got a fairly objective position. for me goin to uni has been a disaster and probably was the wrong choice lol just i look at where my friends are at, and nah, i have next to no examples that you have where theres been a benefit from not going, whereas the people i know in the best jobs all went to uni, not even particuarly good unis, some had a placement year which helped them a lot, some it must have added just a bit to their CV

reason i wouldnt discourage people from going uni because it really can offer you unique opportunities and be one of the best times of your life. and maybe its the wrong attitude but with or without uni, feel like most people are going to end up in crap jobs they dont really like anyway. i'm not sure you can really compare the situation if you are older and when you came out of school the economy and job situation was in a different state. there are plenty of people my generation that try to do what youve said and then end up goin to uni at 20/21 because theres f all out there

Fair enough it's your own experience. A lot of employers do prefer experience over qualifications. Demonstratable achievement in the line of work you're applying for will put you ahead out of someone with a degree for most decent employers.

I agree with this. When I used to shortlist and interview candidates for a role I almost always put the ones who had a degree in the bin unless they had realtive experience or something that made me think they would fit. The reasons for this was the fact they always wanted more money than the equivalent college diploma graduates and would likely just use the job as a jumping off point.

Same experience as me mate.

It will in this era, certainly. And the reason for that is that undergraduate degrees are now a very common thing, which devalues them in the eyes of an employer. Thirty years ago only ten or fifteen percent of the population had degrees but now, thanks to Tony Blair's Labour government, a far greater percentage of those seeking work have degrees, and every year more new graduates enter, and further saturate, the employment market.

I enjoyed my time at university and I originally went into a line of work that required both an undergrad and a higher-level qualification, so I needed to get the qualifications. Had I known that the career I was studying towards was so astonishingly dull then I probably would have joined the military instead... but uni was a lot of fun as far as mingling with the lasses was concerned.

Yes I get exactly what you're saying mate. That Millennials are lazy entitled melts who expect to go shagging about and drinking for 3 years before they have to act grown up and work. It's a disgrace really.

Debt laden, Tony and Guy, Prada wearing whoppers, getting bailed out by their parents after returning home from Uni with a 3:3 in American studies

I reckon they handle the continual abuse from our generation pretty well. In fact they suck it up too much. They need to be mo fie back to us.
Trust me mate the reckoning is coming. Once we become the power-brokers we're cutting off all the OAP funding and just rolling the lot of you in the Mersey. Tax-funded sleeve tattoos and instagram grants for everyone.

It not their fault they've never lived under anything but a Tory Government.
That going I do stuff to your mind, all those years of rewriting history. Apparently they're now taught that the Facsists where the good guys in the last war. :-(

Half of my life was with Blair as PM. I'm struggling to see how that was preferable mate.

Anyways, another day done. Another one nearer to my 79th birthday and the state pension.

Blue Labour doesn't count as Labour mate.
Who do you think started selling off the NHS, etc.
Blair was the 'best' Tory leader since Thatcher
