I remember a live game many years ago when top league football was still live on ITV, we played villa when David platt was excellent and we lost 6-2 but I remember Newell hit a cracking shot it hit a villa defender called Chris Price in the head and I'm sure it knocked him out. Anyone else remember this? for some reason don't ask me why but I think it still have the whole match on VHS somewhere, I taped all the everton live matches in them days.
I recall that game. I think we could've gone top that day if we'd won? At the time it was a case of who was going to get called up for England - Newell or Platt.

I watched the game in a University Common Room, the only Scouser, and all these Villa fans had come out of the woodwork. If you have it on tape, can you get a clip of the best moment of the game and post a link here? I think we're about 6-0 down, and the ITV commentary box was within earshot of the away fans (big mistake). Anyway, you can hear this Scouse voice saying "Brian Moore. Can you hear me? You're a #@£$"

Cottee got one of the goals for us I can't remember who got the other, I know mountfield score for them, I'll try to do a vid some time of the best bits, I also the first televised game of that ITV contract when we drew 1-1 with man utd cottee and Hughes the scorers and 1-1 with Liverpool I think Wayne Clarke scored a pen to get the draw. I have a fair bit of late 80s early nineties matches on tape, some World Cup 90 as well.

This is the whole match : Ian St. John summarising :(

Pretty sure our other goal was a McGrath own goal. Shot from someone on the edge of the area clipped his heel and wrong-footed the keeper.
Amazed I can remember that (if correct) given I can barely remember what I did last night.

Peter Beagrie with a deflected shot off McGrath. Scant consolation. I just remember Beagrie turning inside, shooting and it pinging in off one of Paul McGraths drug filled knees. Cue Brian Moore: "And its in there!"

Gordan Cowans pulled the strings that day...

Reminded me of another Newell lookalike...

That 6-2 walloping is weirdly one of those results that I just remember.
I mean, it's nice to remember results when you've won but why would I not have wiped that debacle out of my mind?
The best answer I can come up with is that the away kit we wore that day is one of my favourite Everton shirts of all time!
Anybody know what other games we played in it? And did we win any? I can't recall.

Also remember one of the famous "out of the mouths of Blues" quotes.
6-0 down, fella turns to his mate and says, "Where else can you see a goal for every pound you've paid to get in?"

Jaffas! Biscuit or cake?
HMRC lost the case against McVitie's , so they are a cake by law.
The decision that Jaffa's are cakes was based on what happens when they go stale -biscuits go soft, cakes go hard.
A resounding result for all Jaffa cake afficionado's who were faced with a 17.5% increase in price if HMRC had prevailed.
A true fore-runner of the pasty tax debacle.
