I saw today that a riled Bob Geldof has offered to house some refugee families in his Kent pad, Davington Priory (just outside Faversham), about 1/2 mile from where we live. Fair play even if the offer is unlikely to be taken up.

Ah, so your desire to allow absolutely anybody free entry is based on a blind assumption that the country they're moving to can absorb the cost etc? We needn't worry about the the 2nd order effects, as long as we're doing 'the right thing' it'll all work out down the line.

as for the other point, again it's been answered. You want an answer I can't give. No-one can. My opinion is that we are not at breaking point and that any current economic issues that we face are down to economic mismanagement that believes cutting services will somehow lead to growth. I am not aware of a nation that has suffered in terms of the wealth of its people as a result of mass immigration. That is all I can base my opinions on, not the opinions of your friends.

Looking back over this entire thread, all you've done is either post saying that someone is wrong, post your opinion, or you say that someone else has said something earlier.

Your posts add literally nothing to this thread. In fact, all you do is harm the conversation by winding people up and repeating the same message. It's why I stopped replying to you earlier.

Why not direct people to something that has already been said? Why not, when you say that someone else is wrong, post a link to something which actually proves your point? It's great to have threads like this from time to time, as it actually allows people to have a good discussion about current events. You're not helping one bit.

Can I just say, I'm really enjoying this debate and it's so much better than the nonsense that was the transfer window thread. There's clearly the whole spectrum of opinion on this subject, and it's great to see GoT at its finest by stimulating decent debate on a serious topic.

Hats off to everyone for contributing this far, regardless of their stance.

and the wind up you referred to was a reply to what was to be honest a really offensive remark about refugees that my gut feeling was to be a lot nastier about. in context you asking for a clear response would amount to someone showing you a pic of a lad in an Everton scarf walking past a homeless guy and saying all our fans hate the homeless. then asking you to prove otherwise

It's like me saying "all immigrants are bad and coming here to take our jobs, it was proven yesterday". Was it? Is there any proof it was proven yesterday? It's a very strong and stupid statement for me to make if I can't back it up.

You, as a refugee, were offended? Or are you being offended for the refugees?

I'll tell you what I found offensive.

I found that when that man threw his wife and baby to the train tracks, that was offensive.

I found that when police came along to a train to offer the refugees food and water, and the refugees threw them away, that was offensive.

I found that when a refugee was interviewed on that very train and he said "we have no food or water and there are pregnant women", thus lying, that was offensive.

As for the rest of your post... what?
