I didn't know driving in the middle was such a bad thing. Thought the inside lane was for people turning off at the next junction and slow drivers who go 50/60. Middle lane for general going straight ahead, outside lane for overtaking. Makes sense to me.

No problem with people sitting in the middle lanes in Perth. Because they seem to prefer sitting in the right hand lane. The only good thing about that is the left hand lane is usually travelling faster than the middle or right lanes because no-one uses it.

I once had an argument with a copper who pulled me over for going 5kph above the speed limit and overtaking on the inside - I asked him why he never did anything about the idiots sitting in the right hand lane which forced people to overtake on the inside - during our chat I pointed out about 10 cars going past hogging the right hand lane and asked why these guys are never pulled over. Luckily he saw my point of view and let me go.

Highlighting these because seriously this middle lane thing makes no sense.

Inside Lane is for the Slow Pokes, P-Platers and what not.

Middle lane is for anyone... mainly for Trucks and the like because those big bastards should be in the middle.

Outside lane is for the speedies overtaking.

Anyone can drive in any lane but the faster kids should drive in the outside, or right hand lane. (opposite for Americans).

Having an over taking lane in the centre of the lanes is madness.

This worries me- especially the 3 points. If Im on a fairly busy motorway and Im in the middle and I see a lorry in teh slow ahead of me- I will sit in the middle to pass it.

Just hope they dont use it as another cash cow.

Trucks and coaches etc are speed restricted, so if you have to go into the 'Slow' Lane then you are constantly having to go back out to the middle lane due to needing to overtake, you cant always pull straight out so then you have to slow down and then accelerate, causing you to use more fuel which costs you and also bad for the environment and extra wear and tear on the engine.

What i find more annoying is when a speed restricted vehicle pulls out to overtake, trucks with the steering wheel on the other side being a particular problem.

Its not OK to hog the middle lane as it suit you, you can't pick and choose what parts of the highway code you will and won't follow, so if you want to drive a 70 fine but when possible do it in the left lane, you can't go given it the biggen on the law if you are only gonna use the parts that suit you. people who hog the middle lane when the left lane is clear will only lead to 2 things people undertaking or a bottleneck as everyone try's to get around you in the over taking lane.

This is a great rule and I hope it is enforced, the next one should be points and fines for those that drive slower than 56mph in the left lane and force every lorry into the middle meaning any car (95%) driving faster than 56mph will all have to filter into the right hand lane which causes bottlenecks, traffic and accidents. On a clear accident free motorway your breaks should never have to be used.

Seeing as most people would fail several times, this would make a cozy little profit for THE MAN and they can knock down all the poor, deprived housing and build huge 6 lane super-motorways.
