Transfer Rumour Michy Batshuayi

Clear out 2 of 3 amigos as someone referred to them earlier and bring him in for the cost (if the price rumors are true)

We have half a season where it can't possibly be worse and if he happens to find some type of form happy days. We then have the summer to bring in the "star" that the fans want. Not a bad second option to have on the books come the summer.

No brainer for me.

I wasn't even particularly arsed about a striker this window but Michy for £14m is a no brainer for me. Especially after £27m for Tosun, yeesh. He can't really pass but:

He scores goals.
He calls out racists on twitter.
He seems like a nice kid.

I'm all in

Edit: oh and he's bang at prime age to give DCL time to develop and we can ship off Tosun and Niasse.

I don't understand the viewpoints some fans have. Apparently he's not at our level, not good enough for us and we should be aiming higher. To who exactly? We're 11th, we've not shown ourselves to be anything but a mid-table team at best since Martinez' first season and we're still a good distance away from challenging for anything meaningful.

That being said it doesn't mean it's all negative, we just have to be realistic. Yes he's a Chelsea reject but Digne, Gomes and Mina were all Barcelona rejects especially Mina who played for them about 5 times. That's fine that's the level we are currently and we need to have players help bridge the gap over time and players like Batshuayi will help with that.

Worst case scenario we've got an improved back up striker and gives times for DCL to grow more or go out on loan. If the fees being mentioned are anything close to the truth then in this day and age it's a steal.

Also anyone discounting his goal record is just looking for an excuse to not like him, it's not his fault that he's played with some really good players in fact that shows that managers have seen quality in him before. If he could come to us and score anywhere between 10 and 15 goals a season whilst also effectively playing his role to allow others like Richarlison to not have to worry about playing out of position or in an unfamiliar position then it's an absolute yes from me.

If we improve a player in each position then we're obviously going to be a stronger team because of that and if it takes 1 window or 5 windows then that's just how long it's gonna take. We need a striker and we need to be competitive. We're never getting anywhere near the likes of Werner, Belotti or any other household European striker with the squad and league position we have now. If we need to improve slowly over time like Spurs have done then so be it but I hope that fans can realise there's no such thing as an overnight success in football anymore.

Mainly because they are actually League 2 players and not playing and scoring for a top international side and scored regularly in 3 of europes top leagues.

You're right there lad. We should completely ignore the fact that he's scored 1 goal in his last 15 games, and has been terribly poor at Chelsea.

I would have no problems with bringing in Batshuayi for £14 mil and getting upwards of £20 million from flogging Tosun and Niasse.

Tosun and Niasse are not good enough for where we're aiming for so in that sense they're deadwood and the sooner we get rid of them and free up their wages the better.

Batshuayi is a good age, has performed well at international level, has experienced the premier league and quite recently had a brilliant spell at Dortmund... been poor at a struggling Valencia but I wouldn't write him off because of it.

I'd love to see us bring in someone like Timo Werner, Maxi Gomez or even see us take a gamble on someone like Belotti but I'd back Batshuayi to get goals for us.

If 7 goals and 2 assists in in under 600 minutes of Premier League football is "terribly poor" then what do you see as acceptable mate?

Those stats are are identical to Tosun's who has played less minutes, so surely they're unacceptable to you considering you want him sold?

Tosun also has 7 premier league goals but in over 1600 minutes of football, over 1000 minutes more than Batshuayi. Wouldn't really say they were identical.

Tosun has made 28 PL appearances for us, you're saying he's played the full 90 minutes in all of those games?

Sadly so. Another lesson in “why not to employ Ronald Koeman”

Wouldn’t go that far to be honest, and see above. Also;

Should we be signing players just because they may possibly be better than what we have now? Surely we want to be after players who can push us up a level...

Even if hes available for £14mil his wages will be very high so it wont end up cheap.

Hes not performed at valencia, dortmund didnt want to sign him after his loan + our forwards would score for chelsea as they are such a good side.

If we were able to sell Niasse and Tosun this window and bring him in for £14mil and ok wages then it makes sense with a view to a better player being signed in summer and him being 2nd choice.

But at the same tims theres a world full of forwards and id be amazed if we couldnt find a better option.

He goes missing in most matches he plays...

He's a poacher. Yes, he's quick enough, and yes he'd be an improvement on what we have in terms of an out-and-out striker.

But, if we're wanting a striker to play the role in a similar way to Richarlison - but with more of an instinct - I don't think he'd do the all-round leg work like Rich does. His hold up play isn't great, and he doesn't exactly run the channels from what I've seen of him.

What he is, is a decent finisher. That being said, he usually needs three chances to score once, although a lot of that could be down to confidence (as we saw at Dortmund).

If we signed him I'd be happy, because he's better than what we have if he's just in to finish off chances. Not sure he'd add loads more to our play, but it depends what we want.

His finishing is akin to Andy Coles when he moved to united...classed as a top finisher but needs a lot of chances to score...

Heavily linked with Monaco in tonights French Press

Hope he goes there.
