Well we physically can't loan him for a start. The rules don't allow a second loan from the same team. And the deal to Palace is a loan.

Chelsea wanted 35m. The player wanted 150k or more per week. Only Steve Walsh would think that makes sense. Why would we panic buy in a bog standard midtable season?

That's the problem with the top 6 teams. They sign dross but still demand enormous fees to offload them and generally get their way due to mouthpieces in the media. Yet when they want a player from a perceived smaller club, they use every trick in the book to unsettle the player and get them with a low ball offer.

I'm delighted we didn't panic buy an average player at a time we are midtable.

For those who say its fine not to improve the side because the seasons over - I agree the board probably think that however I wonder if they would be fine with

A. Refunding all ticket sales from January onwards

And

B. Not care if our fans sacked attending until next season

If the seasons over then sound but don't expect commitment from the fans if the club dont think the remaining 14 games mean anything.

I dunno, its something we are trying to avoid really.

Paying 40m for him and giving him 170k a week is a massive gamble, im really not sure hes worth that.

He will score goals, not a load and hes fairly decent, but theres every chance he could flop and we are left with another tosh player on massive wages we cant shift.

Of course every player is a gamble, but not all of them come with a package that would cost us around 80m.

Yeah quality strikers cost money, but im REALLY not convinced hes a quality striker.

And also yes, hes better than what we currently have, but so is 99% of strikers in the world and not all of them will want 170k a week.

We should though earlier in the month pushed Chelsea hard for zouma, I reckon they would do a permanent deal and he's a good defender, that would have freed the loan up.
