2025/26 Michael Vincent Keane

everything good he has done (and it is a lot) is because we’ve been on the back foot with him in the side

tarkowski and mykolenko looked miles better yesterday and we shut out a side who are averaging 3 goals a game
There's also a giant hole in the ozone layer because of Michael Keane.

I’ve been his biggest critic, but let’s not do the lad down, he’s been superb this season.

It’s taken a while for him to get here, but credit where credit is due.

It’s not when Keane is out of the team this season that we look better, it’s when we have someone playing right back, who can actually support the winger that we look better, as it enables the whole defence to play higher up the pitch.
Hear hear.
Keane has been our best CH this season.
You are 100% correct in saying a decent right back enables our whole defence to play higher and relieve pressure on our area / goal.
An overlapping left back would also help.
If Garner is played at RB and Rohl becomes the player we hope then my priority would be CF LB and another midfield guvnor.

Paul Ince coming out of retirement?

Keane is a sacred cow? You make out like you are the only one that knows he is rubbish..

Every single person in here wants a better CB than Michael Keane, even though he has actually been decent this season. Everyone wails on about a right back because they want O’Brien to play in his natural position.

You don’t like him, we get it.

What classes as decent though? For Keane it seems to be anything that isn’t completely terrible is decent.

We are a million miles away from where we were when we had Jagielka Lescott Yobo Distin Heitinga. Even then that lot were in teams that only came in Europa league places. That’s what I’d class as decent. CBs who give you a 7/10 most games.

Keane gives a 5/10 and there’s lads in another thread on here calling him player of the season. He is a very poor bottom half of the prem centreback who probably would have headed up in the championship or a newly promoted team if he’d left in the summer. He has no pace, no awareness, switches of all the time, and is terrible on the ball. Yes he’s a goal threat and occasionally has an ok game when sat in defending deep in his own 6 yard area like v Man U.

I don’t like him because he’s costed Everton multiple points over the 8 years he’s been here. Marco Silva might still have been manager without some of the nonsense he was throwing that season. Lampard might still have been here. Dyche might have seen the end of his contract had Keane not completely torpedoed the first 4 games of last season.

He’s a blight on the team and the more he plays the more we concede.

An absolute travesty of a defender. The fact he's likely to get a testimonial at the club is criminal.

As you say, he's had a handful of 'decent' games this season. But 'decent' for him is not kicking the ball in the back of his net, or waving his arm out giving pens away. Even in these 'decent' games his usual mistakes are there. Wandering 40 yards into midfield chasing strikers leaving massive gaps in defence.

Only on Saturday he's jogging back looking at Woltemade on his own at the edge of the box, not anticipating a mistake from his team mate and only reacts once the mistake has been made.

Every single time he's stepped in over the last few years, every other defender has looked worse for it. Tarkowski every single time suffers when Keane plays. Tarkowski has definitely dropped a level but its exacerbated by playing next to Keane.

Never seen a defender facing his own goal behind the play as much as Keane does. The ball coming across the box to be tapped in by an opposition striker as Keane follows a few seconds after and ruefully kicks it back into the net is his trademark move.
