So, some players felt tired on sunday just three days after a modorate journey through europe. Some blame for the newcastle game apportioned to this issue. let us consider then how the draw has favoured us.

holland is under an hours plane ride, which is ideal.
nuremberg is no further south than paris, but is is in east germany. still closer that an away in munich.

so with regards travel, we have been dealt a very fortunate set of fixtures.

kind draw indeed.

north of munich, south east germany.

they aren't bad, but geography aint the be all and end all.

the german side will have a big stdium of supporters know doubt. Alkmaar is at the end of the fixtures and is not in the top seeded group for nothing.

Hope we dont have to go to Alkmaar hoping for a point or a win.

Of course, as everyone is saying it could be alot worse. we could be bolton.

(or blackburn).

As an aside, bavarian beer (especially the pilsners and the dunkels and the hefeweissens) is one of the wonders of the world.

Its definitely a trickier draw than it at first looks, and if we play as badly as we did against Metalist then its even tougher again.

My only dissapointment would be is that if we dont proceed past this group stage then we wont have meant anyone "special" if you know what I mean, i.e. Bayern.

Wasn't being picky, suits, but Bavarians are somewhat touchy about being called Ossies!

On the football side, I think the stadium in Nürnberg was sold out against Bucharest. They also have a UK supporters' club...

Leonbil's right about the beer too (dunkelweizen, aaah) - in fact, if anyone is coming over it's worth spending some time in Nürnberg sampling the wares.

I hate us playing on a thursday then a sunday. I would much prefer the Wednesday or Tuesday night games.

I think the travelling shouldnt be a problem but maybe used as an excuse.

The trip to Metalist certianly wasn't no trip to Europe as though you turn up at the airport and touchdown in Amsterdam, two four hour flights followed by an eight hour road journey apparently and then back home. I find hanging about airports to be amongst the most knackering of all things to do, bored shitless, sitting in uncomfortable chairs and eating [Poor language removed] food.........doesn't surprise me in the least some felt the effects(y)

Got a feeling though monty that they had slightly better seats and much tastier food than we are normally used to.

They could, and no doubt did, have the very best but a total of 32 hours travelling is one hell of a lot(y)
