Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Visited Stamford antiques centre today and bought a miners lamp. During the 1984 strike some Notts miners had a fundraising stall on Peterborough market. Their colliery remained open, the majority of their “workmates” including some family members had joined the scab UDM, so the strikers were in a small minority. So sad, really. I used to visit the stall, donate a few bits and pieces and buy a little something. They had a miner’s lamp for sale and I didn’t have enough money at the time, when I returned the lamp had gone and I’ve regretted it ever since. I finally got my lamp today and although my money will go to the dealer and not the miners, I’m going to send a donation to the Justice for Orgreave campaign.

Hello everybody. Greetings from sunny Liverpool. Staying over until Sunday. Dad has just gone to bed. We've had a good chat, I've listened to his usual rants about the Government wasting taxpayer's money and managed not to say anything remotely controversial or leftie ? He's also had a good moan about England's performance in the T20 yesterday...I think he's missed me! In fact the only subject we haven't touched on is Everton. He might be saving that for tomorrow. lol

Had a good journey across Saddleworth Moor looked gorgeous in the sunshine but there is something so bleak about that place, evennin bright sunshine. It always gives me the creeps. Maybe it's because you know what happened there and that little boy is still out there somewhere. Or do places retain the memories ( can't think of a better word) I went to the site of the battle of Culloden once. That had an eerie sad atmosphere as well.

I'm going to have a walk round Sefton Park tomorrow while he's having his dialysis so will take some pics.

Sorry you are still feeling rough @Barnfred 55 If it is similar to what I had I reckon a good 10 days to shake it off. Today is the first day I haven't had some sort of headache. I tested myself for Covid every day for a week. All negative.

Funny how covid tests cost £2 each and are made abroad

Suspicious brain overdrive

Glad you’re feeling better. Your Dad sounds well, if he’s ranting he must be okay. lol I agree about places absorbing the atmosphere. The site of Fotheringhay castle, where Mary, Queen of Scots was executed, always seems to give off an air of sadness even though the building was dismantled and only the earthworks remain and it is a really pretty spot next to the river. Enjoy the park. Looking forward to seeing your pics.

I went over to France and just driving past a lot of the battlefields made me very sad ,I was with another fella from Kirkby and he felt the same but wasn't aware of where he was historically ,so may be something in it .
