Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Just heard from Anj. She's on her way home in a recovery vehicle and says she's fine physically. We were both a bit shook up and I'm expecting a few aches and pains tomorrow but at the moment I feel OK. Luckily we were stationary when it happened, a work lorry slammed into the back of us and shunted us into a transport truck. The front end of the car pretty much caved in. The lorry driver thought he saw air bags (which didn't deploy) but it was where Anj's white bonnet had concertina'd up. The other guy has accepted full responsibility for it and I think was more relieved that we were both OK. It was very scary.

Anyway I've exchanged a couple of jokey messages with Anj and she seems in decent spirits so don't worry too much about us guys.

I am a little concerned about the train journey home tomorrow as I've bought a shed load of stuff from the Asian supermarket and my case is twice as heavy than it was before. 😀
Thank God you are both OK. You will be sore in the morning though.

PS- I hope that suitcase has wheels.

It does. And hopefully I won't be needing to haul it up to an overhead shelf on the train. Even with the extra weight it shouldn't be more than 20k but it may be a struggle if I'm all achy. At the moment I don't feel too bad.

My biggest issue was that my glasses must have flown off my head with the impact and I couldn't find them anywhere, so I couldn't see to use my phone, but I had a spare pair in the hotel so all good now.

@Barnfred 55 glad you are both ok, like you say quite scary at the time and good that the lorry driver to full responsibility
Well we were stationary and in a queue of traffic so he couldn't really not accept responsibility. He just couldn't have been paying attention. But in fairness to him he was genuinely concerned and sorry. I stayed with Anj for about 90 minutes after the accident and the guy was still there when I left. His vehicle had a bit of damage but was still OK to drive.

I have to say Anj handled it all very well. She's a good person to have in a crisis.

@anjelikaferrett and @Barnfred 55 - you gave us quite a scare there and I am so relieved to hear that you are both ok-ish but as you say tomorrow will tell. Such a shame we didn’t get to meet up but hopefully another time. Lucky that you had a spare pair of specs. Safe journey home tomorrow 💙
Yeah. Was really looking forward to meeting you both Val but it'll happen one day I'm sure. Af least I got to meet H and Anj this morning, plus of course Jazzy at Goodison yesterday.

Wow, such a relief to read that after the initial message , I’m glad you’re both ok and so far don’t seem to have suffered any lasting injuries, take care both.

Had such a good time, albeit briefly, with @Barnfred 55 and @anjelikaferrett this morning so was quite a shock to read of their accident and such relief to know that things aren't as bad as first feared, although both must be badly shaken and will have a few bruises in the morning. Take care of yourselves and safe journey home Fred, hope the suitcase doesn’t present too much of a problem.

Hi folks. Well that was an adventure of the wrong sort! I'm sure there's a saying- no good deed goes unpunished. Last night I contacted Fred to see if he wanted a lift to save him getting the train. This morning I went to see a very dear 82 year old friend of my Mum and Dad. I picked Fred up - we were in a queue of traffic in some roadworks, having a chat about his South African holiday when Wham! I got hit by a pick up truck from behind, the impact of which shunted me forward into the back of a container lorry. We truly were the meat in a sandwich. There does seem to any serious damage to me or Fred, but I'll reserve judgement until tomorrow. I think the car will be written off though. Poor Fred - he'll never want to be within 500 miles of me.
On a positive note, the AA were amazing, they've got me home and already sorted a hire car. Everyone I have interacted with today has been lovely - including the guy who hit me and the two police officers who came to see what was going on and moved the car into a bus stop instead of in the middle of the road.

I'd jump in a car with you tomorrow Anj. No worries on that score. Nothing you could have done about today's events. And don't worry about the glasses. Just cheap reading specs you buy off the shelf. Absolutely no idea what happened to them.😀

Dear God it must have been terrible for you both. While I’m sure the car etc will be sorted, the both of you will have difficulty getting this out of your heads. As long as you are both ok take care……
