Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Had a lovely romantic evening last night in the City and enjoyed this menu. Dublin are in town this evening, and with my other half loving football as much as me, of course we talked tactics the whole time šŸ˜€. For the context of the game, us as reigning All Ireland Champions against the previous winners- 18k sellout and great atmosphere ahead.

Confit duck, fillet steak and hot stcky pudding with ice cream please. ;)

How early is early though? Angry young nihilists at the start but even they will grow older and their music evolve as they do as people. Their lyrics on Critical Thinking do hark back to their past; ā€˜I wanna be in love with the man I used to be, in a decade where I felt free’ for example. OneManMilitia was written on the day of the funeral of the Queen and you can feel the fire in it.

Contrast then with the loving lyric of ā€˜Society used to be my enemy now I want to build a small one for you and me’.

Life catches up on all of us and I’m loving how they evolve as a band as I see myself similarly. Still strong opinions but older, life experience influencing how you express it all.
The early 90s were a bit of a weird time for me AT. I was so focused on my career, marriage and home building that the music scene just seemed to pass me by. It was therefore the mid 90s when I got into the Manics, and in those days the only way to get into their earlier stuff was to buy the albums. There was no such thing as streaming. So when I say earlier stuff I'm referring to that era.

That ā€œ row with Zelenskyā€ was truly appalling behaviour even by Trump and Vance standards, coordinated bullying in front of world television.
The problem with Judges is that ultimately Trump has loaded the Supreme Court with his picks . Enough though, he just makes me angry 😔
TBH BL I didn't know whether to post a sad or an angry emoji for that post, which pretty much sums up my mixed up feelings on the subject. One would hope that the Supreme Court judges have enough integrity to defend the US constitution, otherwise I fear for the everyday American citizens

I was lucky to have an older cousin who got me into the Manics from the second album. I’m sure his record collection wasn’t as big as my memory tells me but it seemed vast at the time.

I know what you mean though about periods of your life when things (temporarily) get left behind. It’s a balancing act at times but we can easily forget to prioritise the small things that can be so important for our wellbeing. My reading has really dropped off since Covid and that’s something I need to rediscover.

I felt so sorry for Zelensky last night and for what the world has become. Imagine chastising the man for not wearing a suit ffs!! It was exactly as you described it- co-ordinated bullying.

I asked a tongue in cheek question a short while ago. Who I should hate more, Trump or VVD. The answer was staring me in the face all along. J D Vance. An absolutely vile human being.

Hi folks. I agree with everything you've all said about Trump, Vincent and Zelensky. The question I can't fathom an answer to, is why is Trump behaving like this? I read, during his first term, that he aligns with powerful people and when Teresa May's Premiership was coming to an end, he stopped talking to her - perceiving her to be weak.
Anyway- enough. I hope ypu had a lovely trip @Armaghtoffee. The menu looks lovely. I'm the same with the 90s @Barnfred 55 - they completely passed me by. I got married, had kids and was probably recovering from the 80s as well!
I'm going to Liverpool tomorrow and staying until Monday- I've swapped my non working day so I don't have to take a day off. Today has mostly been sorting out my books. I've tried to be ruthless so I have four bin bags full which are destined for the Village Hall library. Many many Stephen King books, many serial killer books, quite a few books either by or about The Beatles, and a decent mix of political tomes are destined for a new home.
Still no news on my partial retirement application so there is no way it will be processed in time for me to start on 1 May. Allegedly it's 'with HR'. P up and brewery springs to mind.
On a completely different subject - does anybody know anything about gooseberry bushes? I want to take my 3 year old one to our new house but was wondering what's the best way to do it.
Have a lovely evening all x

You're moving house? I missed that one.

Think Jazzy would be the one to ask about gooseberries. No offence mate.

Just having a short break in making my tea. Earlier tea for me tonight so I can settle down to watch The Brits. I'll be rooting for the girls who are up for 4 awards but I'm pretty certain they'll come away empty handed as they're up against stiff opposition. They're giving a live performance though so looking forward to that.

Have a great evening guys.

The bushes need to be moved while they are still dormant ( no new buds forming ) so if your weather is anything like ours then tomorrow could be too late . I hope you can have access to your new garden ! Remember it will need the roots kept damp until you see it spouting well .

Re Gooseberry bush.... happy coincidence, now is the best time of the year to move it.

Prune it back and dig a big circle around it to get as much of the rootball as possible .

Pop it in a pot and cover it with soil . When you replant try to back fill the hole with organic matter ( home compost if you can get hold of any - if you've got a sack I can give you some when you visit Liverpool but probably cheaper to buy some than detour unless you want to see the garden again - needs another month or so although the crocosses are out and daffs just starting).

Back sure you water it well when you replant.

Ideally dig it up the same day that you replant it if possible.

If the rootball is too big for a pot then wrap the rootball in a Hessian sack.

Gooseberry bushes are tough as old boots and sold bare rooted this time of year so you'd do well to kill it

Morning Mascoteers , a collective slap on the wrist ( can you even say that nowadays?) for us all as I had to scroll to halfway down page 2 before I found y'all.

Off to a record fair today and after my holy grail - a first pressing of Aja by Steely Dan. Probably won't find that but as Mrs J says I'm sure I will find something else to buy šŸ˜‚.

Mrs Js birthday tomorrow as she joins the 64 club. Got a nice surprise planned for her.

I've resolved to stop watching the news as the future seems so doom laden but I suspect that will only last 48hours.

I should stick to the advice of one of my lyrical heroes Paul Simon who wrote " I get all the news that I need from the weather report " ( The wonderful Only Living Boy in New York - that's proper music by the way Fred).

Talking about music. Me and my kopite mate ( yes I have just the one ) have resolved to do at least 6 live gigs this year.

We've already been to see Darius Brubeck ( son of Dave - Take 5 etc) and later this month we are venturing to deepest Darwen ( yikes ) to see a Steely Dan tribute band Nearly Dan šŸ˜‚ - supposed to be superb by the way).

Anyway have a lovely day everyone.
