Morning all on this snowy day here in Hyvinkää.We have had about a metre in total now ,so quite a lot for Southern Finland . -15° on the other hand is quite warm! I hope all had a good night and have a better day today .Nice to hear from @Armaghtoffee and to hear his been up to his eyes in it and the @jazzy has finally gotten himself back into the gym .
The wife is now giving her leg some work and resorting to the splint for periods .I am myself am off to specsavers ,yes they are here too ,I have been lucky in having one short and one long sighted eyes and not needing glasses all day but now I have had slightly fuzzy spells we are off to see the opthalmist to check them out ,I dont fancy having them on all day but that stems from working with them on , that is no longer the situation so let's see ?‍?Have a great day all COYB
 

Morning all, early start here as doing a school run today. Rain has stopped but there is still a strong wind blowing. Wednesday again so off to my friend today, hoping to avoid any talk of football, but as mentioned before, she supports Man Ure so I suppose she’ll say something. I’ll just grit my teeth and be gracious in defeat, getting used to it by nowlol.
Good to hear Mrs B’s leg is improving and good luck at Specsavers @blue1948, hadn’t realised they were international.

Good morning friends. As this is our safe space can I ask when is homicide justifiable? As you know I take Mr F to work every day at around 6.30 am. I'm not at my best at that time of the morning and would prefer the journey to be undertaken in total silence. However Mr F chats away and tells me about what he's going to do in work. I belive today is emptying dog poo bins in Barnard Castle and attending to a fly tip. I don't actually speak, a few well- placed uh-huhs and mmms ( think 14 year old boy responses) keeps him happy.

Today however he mostly talked about Newcastle United. Now in the 30 odd years I have known Mr F he has been to St James Park twice. Once last year when, at my instigation, we went to the Everton match. The previous time, Kevin Sheedy was playing for them! Suddenly he's super fan. Never stopped this morning. Just look at where we were last season. All you need is a good run of results and so on and so forth. I got a potted history of the local lad who scored last night and by the time we arrived at work I was wondering if I could perhaps beat him to death with the plastic, half empty de-icer bottle.

Our county football team were in Div 3 ten years ago and would now be one of the strongest in Div 1. I fancy our chances of silverware this year if we avoid injuries.

Just keep reminding him of how Geordie Arabia is funded and that is something no one should take any joy from really.

I'm no psychiatrist, but I think the REAL villain here is Everton. If we were comfortably mid-table and your beloved was showing his excitement about his team being newly boss, I'm sure you'd find it adorable. Our utter crapness, however, is what has made it impossible to bear.

Spare him, I say.

Oh I do. My stock response is usually well at least our owners don't chop up journalists but at 6.30 am I much prefer silence. I would do well in a Carmelite convent until about lunch time ? ?
 

On the subject of other teams, I am starting to think that I am the curse on this club, such is my abysmal record at picking them. Everton was the obvious choice, because my auld man was a blue, but the rest were of my own accord.

I remember when Serie A was all over Channel 4, and me and my mates were well into our world footy magazines, we had a discussion about what our teams from other countries would be. Mine were:

Italy - Inter. Loved the kit, as well as the likes of Zenga, Sosa and Schillaci. They have the occasional period of success these days, generally followed by being a bit poo for a while. Sod's law that their greatest success of the modern era came under Mourinho, who does my box right in.

France - PSG. Purely down to the kit, and George Weah obvs. These days they're a deplorable outfit who have bought the rights to the league title in perpetuity.

Spain - Barca. It was pretty much a choice of two and Real always struck me as the baddies, for some reason. Basket case of a club these days, though admittedly they've won a lot in recent years.

Germany - Dortmund. Again, Bayern seemed like the baddies, plus I loved Dortmund's kit. They signed Sammer from Inter and had Chapuisat up front who was defo a footy hipster pick in those days.

In other sports I chose the Tennessee Titans (in the days of McNair and Eddie George) - who had a proper Ancelotti at Everton season this season. Looked like they'd walk their division then absolutely imploded - and the Miami Heat (pre-glory days, think Alonzo Mourning and Timmy Hardaway). Brief period of dominance with LeBron but that's been pretty much it in about 26 years.

So, to surmise, sorry everyone. My bad that Everton are poo.

My 'other' teams are
West Indies cricket team: unashamed glory supporting from the 70s/80s. Now utter dross
Serie A; Udinese. Only because when my son was small and got his first PSwhatever, he excitedly told me he was playing football as a team from Italy called Undies. I have kept an eye on Undies ever since. Their last trophy was the Coppa Italia in 1978 and that's about it
NFL: the Detroit Lions. Aged 15 I went to visit my auntie (Dad's sister) who lived in Michigan and they took me to an NFL game. Lions against the Bills. The Lions lost. They appear to be perennially dreadful. Although I think they nearly made the playoffs this year.

Maybe Evertonians have a streak in them that makes us want to stick up for the underdog. Where's the fun in winning all the time?

I like this take!

I should add that, since I have had kids, we've resolved that any "football" cities we visit, we should pick up a shirt/scarf, etc from. COVID derailed us immediately after we did an Ajax stadium tour, but we got back on the horse last year with a trip to Sondeborg, home of the world-renowned SonderjyskE (Danish second division, if you were wondering...).

What I love about that is the kids still look out for their results with me on occasion. Ajax are far from underdogs, but not quite the all-conquering force they were.

Off to Rome in Feb, so I will be interested to see which club the kids decide to back, there!
