Messi "best player of all time"

Because I find the argument that not winning a single cup competition degrades your career nonsense.
That's not the point I was countering, I was countering the idea of a player achieving single handed success in a team sport, which you inadvertadly also countered with your statement on Maradona, then Brucie old boy, you appear to have gone into an imaginary argument rather than admit you were wrong and I was right

Wales got to the semis. It's a tournament that throws up strange winners (yet is somehow stronger than the Copa America).

Oh come on. It's stronger than the CA because there are teams like Germany, Itay, France, Spain, usually The Netherlands, erm England. Not even mentioning Portugal, Croatia, Sweden etc. who have all been decent at one stage or another.

Now let's look at the Copa America. Brazil, massive drop then, Argentina...maybe throw in Uruguay and Columbia.

You want to include Sweden and Croatia and 'maybe throw in' two time World Cup winners Uruguay? Very magnanimous!

Portugal played Austria, Iceland, Hungary, Croatia, Wales and France en route to winning in 2016. They won one of those games in normal time.

prime example of the effects of being the player in a one man team setup, no wonder every class player the rs get bins them off after a few decent seasons

me and my mates always have the messi/Ronaldo debate

always said Ronaldo is better, he's a more all round player, can do more, has adepted his play to play in different roles, he's achieved more, proved it in different leagues, done it at international level with a far worse national side

messi I think just looks better when plays, wonderful player and wonderful dribbler he looks more fancy and that gets him the attention I reckon

CR7 all day

Yes Uruguay that last won the world cup nearly 70 years ago and haven't done much since. Can't say getting to the 2010 semi final as it was blatant cheating that got them there!!

Not saying you can't get an easy draw and have a bit of luck as Portugal did, just saying the quality of the teams that compete in the Euros are better than what are in the Copa America.

When the likes of Mexico, Paraguay, Columbia and Peru start beating the top European sides on a regular basis then we can reassess the issue.

Super. So we can discount the cheating toe rag and therefore his 1986 'miracles' and declare Messi the best. It's taken longer than I expected but I'm glad we finally got there.

doesn't match the other two for longevity, but out the three, theres no doubt fat ronaldo would be the toughest to mark, had everything

Remember he had severe knee injuries when he was younger and still won the world player of the year 3 times. Also, he won the world cup twice.

First one is a bit of a gimme though, wonderful player, probably better defenders around then, the ding dong he had against de boer in the 98 semi final was something else, regularly got to see him go up against cannavaro as well
