Messi "best player of all time"

Is it best player or best goalscorer? Maradona will never be beat in my view as best player. Messi is brilliant but he's played his entire career at a club surrounded by top players with pitches like carpets. Maradona played in an era without that and in a time defenders come through the back of you and hardly a foul ever given. went to napoli and won them the league. Thats sort of like messi going to stoke city now and winning them the title. Also won a world cup virtualy on his own. Messi has done very little on the international stage.
Maradona was a freak with the ball. True one off.
Think you’ve hit a full house on Maradona bingo there

Messi is good but Ronaldo would fit our system better.
Imagine him and Gomes lining up in the tunnel. The opposition would be swooning before they hit the pitch.
Except Burnley I suppose.

Summed up well by the commentator on Bein Sports last night who kept repeating in Arabic;

"If you have Messi, don't be afraid"

As an aside, it's interesting to note that this team of Argentinian no hopers Maradona helped to World Cup success in 1986 was around the same time as Argentinos Junior had beaten the Juventus of Platini and Laudrup in the World Club championship in 1985, and River Plate beat Steaua in 1986. They were no hopers though apparently.

It’s basically old people with bad memories remembering what they want to remember so they can call the best player of their generation the best ever. I’m sure in three decades when some new footballing god comes along you’ll have people from our generation saying that Messi and Ronaldo took a bunch of bums to multiple titles and European cups.

People love rewriting history to make things seem more epic than they actually were.

Maradona won it on his own (even though Valdano scored four goals ffs)

Messi has 46 goals this season, despite missing a month with a broken arm, and despite the most important fact that everyone misses out, he doesn’t play as a striker. He comes deep, he drifts wide, he creates, he assists, he is the GOAT, without a shadow of a doubt.

The stats back him up, and the fact he is so beautiful to watch especially pummelling the RS is just a delicious bonus.
