2025/26 Merlin Röhl

Just back from injury, played out of his usual position and only got 20 minutes against the best side in the country at the moment.

The desperation to write a player off and to slate them at every opportunity is tiresome.

I can see his attributes but he looks careless in possession and dwells on the ball. Hopefully he’ll improve and get used to things.

Disappointing time here so far, I don’t think you could say otherwise.

He didnt look like this pre injury, maybe im remembering wrong and happy to be proven wrong but I'm not sure he gave the ball away in his first appearances before injury, least not in the vain of last night.

Rohl, Dibling and Aznou: it really is too early to tell.

There's a run of games over Christmas and the new year where the opportunity has arisen to see a lot more of them against teams who aren't going to overwhelm us. Moyes will probably waste it though and play McNeill, Mykolenko and Garner.

Garner should be at RB and we should be testing out a new combination in the engine room.

I think this is spot on. He looked rusty as hell and touch was off - but he looks like his physicality is there for the prem and can be moulded into a decent option. This is where I struggle with seeing Dibbling, just looks likes he is miles off what’s needed physically.

Strange take this. I'd say the similarity with Rohl and Dibling is they both look to get the ball up the pitch and are hars to disaposess while players bounce off them.

My issue with Rohl is purely his injury history.

In terms of ability hes looked fine and poor in equal measure.

But these guys need half a dozen games in a row for 90mins to get fully up to speed.

I haven’t seen that with Dibbling - he has had one purple patch at soton early on and faded.

From what I’ve seen from him at England u21 and limited game time here he seems quite one paced and lacking a bit of physicality. Obviously young and might come on but I wouldn’t have spent that much money on his skillset.

With Rohl I just think he’s shown a bit more pace and movement - even yesterday he made a lung busting run up the pitch , was pressing hard and won us a few throw ins. Think it’s something that can be worked on even if general play was a bit poor.

Obviously a huge possibility that I’m also talking out of my arse 😂 and I’m being harsh judging them so early.

I don’t think that’s entirely fair. We’ve committed to paying £20m for the lad at the end of the season and halfway through it he hasn’t started a game and hasn’t exactly pulled up any trees in his sub appearances. It’s not massively surprising that his thread isn’t overflowing with positivity.

I'll be honest, only Rohl has impressed me of that 3.
