2025/26 Merlin Röhl

Covers the pitch like a gazelle.

He loses ball in silly areas sometimes but there is no denying the lad has something.

Like the fact he was on Lark Lane with his camera last week just taking some pictures.
I wonder if Moyes isnt wanting to play Garner at RB and is waiting to do so until Rohl can show he can take the middle. The fact Tim is still ahead of him isnt great, but it may be hes trying to ease him in after injury. I think Rohl playing to his potential in the middle(and thus freeing up Garner at RB) could really change us for the better.

….not forgetting Armstrong in the equation, he could certainly compete for a place with Rohl and iroegbunam next season.

Garner’s future might lie at RB as far as Everton is concerned, although he might be planning on a move at the end of his current contract.

💯...If also factor in he's still not long back from injury.

I think you'll start seeing him really push for a first team place towards the back end of January.

I'd like to see him maybe put on a stone in weight as well, bulk up a tad to cope with the physical demands.

I honestly think the only thing that will hamper him will be injuries.

I keep forgetting about Armstrong...It's tasty prospect the thought of those 2 lads running our midfield for years to come.

Yep . Both a great size , good engines and technically excellent.

Whether they gel is another matter.

Also , and I think it was @PeregrineT talking about what you can't teach , I hope they have intensity.

For far too long our midfield is passive. Gana's got intensity but his legs will surely go soon.

….i like that ‘passive’ description, i tend to say Iroegbunam ‘lacks tempo’ or plays in 3rd gear.

I've been critical of Iroegbunam positional awareness in the pass but I thought he was fine on saturday,Maybe that was due to having Gana next to him.

But he does also seems to be very one paced, you won't see him making lung busting runs.

….he’s a powerhouse and I think he has a bit of toe about him, he’s just a bit languid. I actually think he’s got more in his locker that what he’s shown.

Think he plays with the hand brake on a lot because he's lacking confidence. Before Gravenberch broke through at Liverpool last year (aged 22 BTW) I was telling a lot of my RS friends what a good player he was capable of becoming and they weren't having it. I see a lot of the same qualities in Tim if he just played with more confidence/decisiveness. I always feel like he is seconding guessing what he should do every time he gets the ball. I want him beating players and driving us forward. He has the ability.

Not sure I want my CMs putting on a stone. Centre backs and strikers maybeif they are getting bullied but CMs main job is to get around the pitch and extra weight isn't going to help that. He's already a unit.

I thought he had a capable showing despite a couple moments of sloppiness , hes just starting to string together games , I think people need to stop being insufferable scrutinizers and give the player an opportunity to distinguish himself before casting a conclusive judgement upon him.
