2025/26 Merlin Röhl

I wouldn’t be comfortable with Travers either because he is wank.
Well considering we're not going to have a top line goalkeeper happy being number 2 behind Pickford I think Travers is about as good as we'll get for a small outlay. I'm still waiting for you to tell me this free agent goalkeeper we should of got since you seem to think there's plenty about

Here you go. Turns out there is plenty about, and this isn’t even including all the keepers that were free agents in the summer that joined other clubs.

Evidently you think Mark Travers is the only goalkeeper good enough for the hallowed position of Everton benchwarmer that we could’ve possibly brought in though so I fully expect you to continue to argue this futile point no matter what evidence is presented.

Merlin Rohl and Mark Travers were wastes of money.

That's just a random list Mike. I don't know the majority of them. Seems you'd be happier with an ancient Fraser Forster or Rui Patricio as our deputy ready to be called on if Pickford misses significant game time. Merlin Rohl and Travers are low cost and haven't affected our transfer budget and Rohl is an option to buy so not a massive risk

If Pickford misses significant game time and we have to rely on Travers we are equally screwed  I have no idea why you’re trying to argue that there isn’t a keeper in the world we could’ve brought in for under £4m to sit on the bench and never play. Marco Bizot, Angus Gunn, Walter Benitez, Marcus Bettinelli and Lukasz Fabianski are all backup keepers that joined PL teams for under £1m, you aren’t going to convince me that any of them are worse than Travers.

Röhl isn’t an option to buy, it’s an obligation.

Deary me you're judging Travers on a not convincing league cup game. I think with a run of games he'd be solid enough and certainly no worse then those goalkeepers you've listed (Angus Gunn!!) Even if Rohl is an obligation the fee is relatively low and he's young enough to progress into a good player despite his injuries. Seems you like to write players off pretty quickly judging by your views of Rohl, Travers and Iroegbunam. I'm glad our transfer policy isn't aligned with your way of thinking as we'd end up with journeymen on big wages like Josh mediocre Brownhill

Also the entirety of pre season, and his Bournemouth career where he conceded 9 at Anfield and then couldn’t get a game ahead of various other mediocre keeper. Yeah I think I’ve seen enough evidence to suggest he’s not a very good goalkeeper. Please explain to me how Angus Gunn is any worse than Travers btw, I’m really interested to hear it?

Rohl is quite clearly made of biscuits as his injury record across his career suggests. Tbh I’m not sure why I’m arguing with someone who spent the whole summer trying to convince me that we were having an excellent window and our glorious leaders Angus and Nick had everything mapped out and under control. If a player isn’t very good or is a crock, I will say it, whereas it seems you prefer to live with your head buried in the sand.

What did I'm not convinced by Rohl yet... The classic 'needs games/ time', injury cover in theory, is his opportunity this year. But it's disappointing to see him crocked so bad so early.

Question mark.

Angus Gunn is about the same level. They're both championship standard in all honesty which is fine for a backup keeper. We did have a good window as you can clearly see as we're a much better side now than last season. Sure it would of been nice to of had a couple of full backs but you can't solve every problem at once. I think you're very much a here and now viewpoint who struggles to see beyond the immediate which is no way to run a football club

I agree, one was a free transfer and the other set us back £4m. We finally arrive at the point all along.

I don’t agree that we had a good window at all, we have £80m worth of new signings either sat on the bench unfancied, or out injured.

4 million isn't going to affect our budget looking for full backs or a striker going forward. To be honest Mike I didn't understand buying Tom King as we have Tyrer to do that job. Well we've improved our midfield with Dewsbury Hall, we've improved our wide areas with Grealish and if Barry keeps progressing we've improved our striker. So all in all a good window and I'm not going to write off Aznou, Rohl and Dibling this early as I think they are work in progresses which is fine as we need to look at our future and not just the here and now

We had a mediocre to poor window. Nobody prior to the window opening would have suggested that we only needed 2 first eleven players, yet that’s what we’ve ended up with. Barry has been poor and could easily be a flop.

Well I think patience is required. What were you expecting this season?

Travers is a back up keeper, kinda need one of those!

For £4mil. Not to mention King was also signed when we had Tyrer.

Whats even happened to Tyrer, he was linked away for £1mil.

Good enough to do what, sit on his arse for 2 years? Joao Virginia was good enough to do that for us. Tom King on his own would’ve probably been fine.

We'd have needed better than King but £4mil on Travers who was unwanted at Bournemouth seems mental to me.

Only a nincompoop would think spending £21.5mil on Rohl & Travers was good business.

I dont think youre a nincompoop just far too positive.

Cant have injury cover being an injury prone player themselves.

Opinions may vary Zatara, time will tell if I'm a nincompoop or not
