Mentality

Yes, as per my previous post. We aren't very good at playing Football. We should look at them for lessons on playing Football because they are very good at playing Football. But we don't need to look at them (or anyone else for that matter) on conducting ourselves before, during or after a game.

We handle ourselves just fine. I don't think it's the 'plucky little Everton' mentality that's keeping us down. I also don't think that we're shafted by refs proportionately more or less than other teams in the league. VAR has given plenty of dodgy decisions for and against most teams this season.

it's the quality of togger, plain and simple. To watch the painful standard of Football we churn out and then complain that 'it's clearly corrupt officials' keeping us down, is naive at best.

You can just ignore the rest of my post and reply to the bit you put in bold, that's cool.

I didn't. I also addressed your point about feeling that we're shafted by the officials.

The only bit I didn't address was that you felt Klopp would have gone nuts at the officials on Sunday. I didn't think that was relevant. All managers react differently to adversity and injustice and I don't believe it has a particular bearing on the propensity of decisions in their favour thereafter.

It's much more productive to focus on the performance of the team, which isn't good enough and hasn't been for quite some time.

A small point, some would say trivial and pedantic. They could be right...

But 97th minute equaliser at home, against 10 men.

5 minutes left on the clock.

Instead of getting on with the game going for that winner as the top teams no doubt would, our players go an celebrate with the crowd.

Instinct should be to get the ball out the net and get that winner, not this;

It is indicative of how poor the team has been for the last few games and how desperate that to actually score a goal and earn a point is akin to winning a cup!!

I can only imagine that in a "normal game" they would have grabbed the ball and ran back for the winner.

I think, and bearing in mind what Cenk and the other players had seen, emotion just took over….I mean we will never know if that's the case but I believe that's what happened here and it was a big release for all the players.

Said it in the match thread, Sidibe had the ball at the byline and instead of crossing into the box (at this point we had more blue shirts in the box than we had all game) he played it back and cost us that one last chance. I'd rather see the ball go into tbe box and get cleared than played safely. It was virtually the last kick of the game.

He didn't play safe though, quite the opposite, he took half the team out with a poor pass. That's where this all gets a bit confused for me. It was nothing to do with mentality, it was just a rank bad decision by Sidibe. But it can be neatly pigeonholed as a negative mentality to suit the narrative.

isn’t any goal in stoppage time to salvage points a cause to celebrate, no matter the level of opposition, place in the table etc.?

im all for the pile-on of our struggling team but I have no problem here

In all seriousness, Lucas Digne and the man who gave that infamous “Everton aren’t we” interview are the only people i’ve seen demonstrate the type of mentality needed at this club in the last 5 years. It’s embarrassing.

I thought the celebrations were over the top but won't criticize it to much given what had just happened to their teammate. After the goal we had opportunities to press them more but played it backwards instead.

A few weeks ago I saw a few people making similar statements that we were rudderless, which I agreed with, and, that we were sleepwalking towards relegation. Given how bad other teams were at the time I didn't think it would effect us this season. But...

There is an air around the club similar to Aston Villa and Sunderland in the seasons before they were relegated.

There seems to be a disinterest from the club.

Little has been said about disappointing league position... The past three league games have seen woeful officiating, in two of those games we've lost points due to what amounts to on the spot rewriting of the rules... The decisions have been heavily criticised by neutral, high profile pundits. I don't want the club to be whining about everything each week, but we've taken it on the chin, the woe-is-me manager saying he respects the officials decisions - and let an opposition club whose player has just broken the ankle of one of our players through recklessness paint themselves as the victims.

The player's lack enthusiasm, the club lacks interest and sadly at some point more and more fans will.

We're allowing ourselves to be bullied during games and in the post games media circus.
Our attitude to things is completely wrong.

Football is about a winning mentality. Winning games, getting to finals, bringing home silverware.
