Just copied from wikipedia but note that it says Koeman feels he will be the best in the world.

Depay was named as the "Best Young Player" in the world in 2015 by France Football.[3] Depay is widely considered to be one of the brightest young talents in European football and the most exciting young player to emerge from the Eredivisie since compatriot Arjen Robben.[4] Memphis is known for his ability to cut inside, dribbling, distance shooting and ability to play the ball off the ground. His playing style has earned him acclaim, with fans, media and former players drawing comparison to Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo, who believes "Memphis is one of the best young players in the world.",[5] whileLouis Van Gaal, Ronald Koeman, Guus Hiddink, Arjen Robben, Marco van Basten, andWayne Rooney have stated "he will be the best in the world

koff damo!

My fear with a loan is he's a success and then goes back to Man Utd. If Koeman believes in the player he should try and him sign him for £15-25m.

It's his work rate which has been questioned at Utd I believe, which makes it a strange one as RK is all about pressing and closing down etc. The lad has no end of talent but so does Del Boy and he's sat on the bench every week.

I've said hes a potential superstar for ages...if we get him on loan and he does well then sky is the limit in terms of ability. World class potential and was ace in Holland.

Would have to be a loan first though.

Never question my eye for a wunderkind.

To be fair, so was Vincent Janssen.

We would never have signed Arteta, Pienaar or a number of other players if we solely judged them on what they did at their previous clubs.

Considering how highly he was rated before he signed for Man Utd and how good he looked in Holland (yes, usual caveat about Dutch league applies), a loan with a view to buy makes perfect sense. Worst case scenario - you have a crap player on loan for 6 months. We've had plenty of those - in fact we've got one right now. Best case scenario - player performs to his potential, we sign him for the agreed fee and we have a young, quality player.
