Memories of Mike Walker

I thought we were really doomed, cos the first time we dropped into the relegation zone all season was after getting beat 3-0 at Leeds the week before that Wimbledon game. That was horrendous, just slipping into it with one game to go!

What made the impending doom seem inevitable was going 2-0 down to Wimbledon early on, after conceding a completely unnecessary penalty and an own goal!! Completely self-inflicted!!!

That can't be right. We only had 4 points at Christmas, I remember winning our first home game to West Ham in about December, Lee Chapman missed an open goal for them near the end. Scary times!

That was the following season, 95/95.

He was then sacked and Joe Royle came.

Ah, that makes more sense.

Yes that West Ham game was Walker's penultimate game, and his first win of the season. A midweek game at Goodison. Must have been early to mid November. We'd previously drawn 1-1 at home with Arsenal the weekend before, then drew at Norwich the weekend after. When he was sacked, Walker commented that we were turning a corner and he should have been given more time.

Rotle was appointed but I remember having to wait a while for his first game. Must have been on an international break...

Mike Walker = Sh*te
Joe Royle = decent
Walter Smith = could've done better... but maybe not
David Moyes = close but no cigar
Roberto Martinez = not convinced, not one little bit.
agree with that, Royle went to early for me last manager we had that thought we could and should win stuff.
In fairness to smith he tried then had the rug pulled from under him brought decent quality in then had to sell them and bring deadwood in to balance the books.

....he fancied himself, collar up over crew neck sweatshirt. Remember one Saturday morning at Bellefield a lad I know having a 'chat' with him about team selection as he got out of his car.

I can see Our blessed Walter and Archie Knox now in my minds eye, standing on the line shudder shudder was some dire stuff at the time.

Memories of Mike Walker.....

There's one where he shares a hot tub, champagne and chocolate fountain with Preki, Brett Angell and Vinny Samways.

That must have happened at some point....

A one sided and very loud chat?
