I've noticed recently since we've been getting better that the media seems to mention "not won a trophy since 1995" in every thing about us.

On the BBC recently they've been using this stat a lot more:

You might think there is nothing wrong with them bringing it up, but you see "similar clubs" like Aston Villa (1996) and Newcastle United (1969) and its not even mentioned. Is this because we are doing well all of a sudden, because under Moyes it wasn't mentioned as much.

The fact that these youngsters (my age probably!) bought up on sky are being told that we've EVER won anything is progress....many think we haven't

Yeah, it was mentioned in a few of the QPR previews by various journos and also mentioned in a few different match reports of today's game that I've read.

BBC always does this sort of thing when doing cup write ups. Its a cup thing not a Moyes thing. It was said plenty under Moyes as well mate. Although obviously more when he reached the final.

Of course having the current cup winning manager will raise more media expectation as well, but its pretty standard to mention the last time the cup was won at a club.

True this point made by the OP, i think its because now under Roberto we are seen as a club who can and should win something, under Moyes we were seen as lucky Everton with no money to spend...etc we have to win something soon, far more important to win the cup than coming in a CL spot...etc

Nah i think we always get the FA cup history thing mentioned in cup previews vs lower league teams, its all part of the setting up a giant killing thing by the BBC for MoTD, sadly for them this year were boss like

At least we're not Villa???

The British media don't seem to embrace the underdog/bucking the odds teams very well....unless it's madness in the FA Cup when Wetwang Wednesday beat Leeds United. They LOVE that story. If it ain't the established financially backed bunch, they are genuinely an afterthought for coverage. Would make me so happy to see us steal the headlines...on a budgie
