Kudos to those who made the case - keep up the good work. These will return as dung beetles in the next life. Hope we can find some prison time for them in this one.

Meanwhile... why do I think of this lot?

Once a charity goes away from being a small affair they become a ruthless business just like all others.

How much money gets to the end point is the question. I'd guess for most it's negligible!

Just like 95% of most charities to be fair..

Only 5% of money raised goes to the actual people needing it.

Naw, it's nowhere as bad as you're making out. It's simple enough to find out how much charities spend on admin and fund raising as opposed to on the people they're helping. Most decent charities will spend 70 to 90% of what they raise on the actual causes that people are supporting. Charities need to employ people, and those people need money like the rest of us.

It's just a cop out to say "Very little of the money raised is used properly" or similar.

TL;DR ?

Don't be a mingebag.

No sorry. I didnt mean all charities, but some.

Always struck me as odd the way 'non-profit' organisations can pay a whacking great big salary to a CEO.

It's a complete rip off. Not just Charities but professional organisations who set themselves up as 'not for profit'. There's less of it here than in the USA but it's still rife and open to abuse..........

Cheers Woolly, not convinced like. Did you read the comments to this pr piece?

Most charities will publish annual financial reports/reviews. I don't think the article or Wolley's 70-90% is too far off the mark.

I can give you a quick breakdown for Banardos who last year spent approx 72% of income on charitable activity and a little over 6.5% on governance. 14.5% of income was spent on trading (including retail), 4% on marketing/fundraising and the remainder went to reserves.

I'd say this is fairly typical.

Thanks mate :)
Allegedly, the accountancy on the breakdowns provided is far from clear, with a lot of salaries occupying the 'frontline' segment. Apparently, this is partially caused by recent legislation.
