Stephane Mbia claims that Arsenal are interested in his services, but the African has reaffirmed his intention to seal a move to Everton, who propose him the wages he demands.
The Rennes midfielder declared earlier this week that David Moyes’ Toffees were trying to trash out the terms of a transfer, and he has now announced that The Gunners are also keen on his arrival.
The Cameroonian is back to France after having played the Beijing Olympics, and is hopeful his future will be sorted before the transfer deadline.
This interview to L’Equipe’s website looks like a divorce between Mbia and Rennes, and the player is ready to do anything possible to join Everton, who have the financial ‘resources’ to sign him.
“I have just been told that Arsenal are as well interested, but my position is clear: I want to start the season with Everton,” Mbia said.
The 22-year-old claims there is no way back to him at Stade Rennais, and is hopeful he will put pen-to-paper next week.
“What Rennes are currently offering me is far behind my demands. Both clubs have to find an agreement to help me leave.
“I’m aware that my directors have declared I won’t leave, but it’s just a means to make my price higher. I understand their position and I would do the same.
“It’s politics. Regarding what I’ve heard, I know [general manager Pierre] Dreossi is ready to let me leave. From my part, I don’t want to play for Rennes anymore.
“Personnaly I don’t worry because English clubs have the resources to sign me. When they really want a player they are ready to spent whatever amount.”
Mbia makes clear that the financial aspect of the move is the main reason for his desire to join The Toffees.
“I’m hopeful it will be done by next week. That kind of opportunity only happens once. Everton offer me €1.5 million (£1,2 million) whereas I don’t earn the half of it at Rennes.
“Even if I owe everything to this club (Rennes), I have a family to feed, regardless the challenge, which is very interesting.
“It’s an ideal springboard for my career.”

If you read that as a neutral, it wouldn't read well.

We NEED and SHOULD sign him. Hes a great buy, he will be like a cahill, arteta, howard, jagielka or lescott buy - cheap but fantastic.

True. But you know what, i'd much rather a player admitted up front he was after a decent pay rise and was interested in money. Much better than being a money grabbing [Poor language removed] and lying about it.

But i dont think thats totally the case here, whats wrong with a pro footballer wanting to improve his career and earn extra money while doing so?

M'Bia just seems a bit cocky as opposed to out and out mercenary really.

agreed, with the emphasis on greed. Doesn't make great reading.

But who cares? let's let him use us as a "springboard" while we use him to shore up the midfield for a year until we can afford better.

It's five to two at the disco, "true" by spandau ballet is on, and we haven't pulled a stunner yet.

I am thinking a scrubber will do for now:lol:

The amount M'bia babbles on reminds me of Nyarko, hopefully he doesn't turn out the same as him.

Anyone else get a bit worried about the amount of African nations players we could lose Yobo, Yak, Pienaar, Victor, and potentially M'bia. Hopefully we will have a bigger squad the next time the African Nations comes around else we could be struggling.

Top man and very honest. He wants to play for a better football club, in a stronger League who will pay him better money to feed his family.

Sign him up.(y)

He is being a cocky little ****! Don't get me wrong I know we need players like him, on the footballing side of things, but would the rest of the squad take to someone with such a cocky attitude?

Ronaldo has a cocky attitude, all great players do, look at Gerrard, Ibrahimovic, Torres, Villa etc....Deos that matter? No, hed be a great signing

i can understand that he'd be going for more money-almost all players do-but i dont see everton as a springboard. there's no point in him being here if he only wants to come in to get out.
