Barcelona signs Maxwell from Inter Milan - FOX Sports on MSN

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) - Barcelona reached an agreement with Inter Milan to sign Brazilian defender Maxwell in a €4.5 million ($6.4 million) deal, the Spanish league club said on Wednesday

The 27-year-old left back is Barcelona's first offseason signing since becoming the first Spanish club to win the treble - the league, Copa del Rey and Champions League.

Barcelona said the deal for Maxwell, whose full name is Scherrer Cabelino Maxwell Andrade, could reach €5 million ($7 million).

Barcelona, which was seeking a replacement for Silvynho, had been negotiating with Deportivo La Coruna for defender Filipe Luis but could not meet on a price.

Maxwell made 33 appearances for the Italian champion last.

In July 2006, Inter officially announced the signing of Maxwell on a four-year contract.
So that would mean he had a year left, still seems a very low price.

And Initially placed at left back, the 2007-08 season saw him move further up the field with Cristian Chivu replacing him at left back while Maxwell played a left midfield/winger role.

Yes, his wages will be silly, I was only joking about us going for him really. It was the price that shocked me. Add that to the Matias Fernadenaz***, Obertan transfers and theres 3 fairly good players picked up for mere chicken feed.

They've got that young Santon kid that Mourinho loves to bits, then Chivu and they played Cordoba and Muntari at left back a few times last season as well...

Matias Fernandez moved from Villarreal?
 

Really speaking Fernandez probably isn't a replacement for Moutinho as he generally plays behind the striker(s) but he's far more creative than Cahill or Fellaini so I would have loved him at Goodison.
Especially for 3 f...ing million. Ffs, you can't even get a Championship fullback for that price
