Matthew Pennington

Perhaps this won't be a popular suggestion, but perhaps with Stones certainly having to play CB, maybe it's best to play Hibbert?

My thinking is, he is at least a RB, playing players out of position just hasn't worked of late - look at Oviedo.
That actually makes sense Groucho, Hibbert could play the first half and maybe Pennington the second when Tonys' legs have gone.

God knows what his fitness is like but Hibbert was always a good defender and if he has someone like Lennon in front of him with the legs to double up on Martial it makes sense.

well hes played 45 mins football this season i think and even when fully fit and at his 'peak' he couldnt cope with the big wembley pitch. id rather have a traffic cone at right back than hibbert tomorrow.

Hibbert has been a decent defender in his day but given his age and lack of game time in last two seasons I think it would be an accident waiting to happen. Hopefully Jags is back at centre half then it's between Pennington and Connolly for right back for me. With Lennon in front of them!

Hibbert? As in Tony Hibbert ? Who hasnt had a run of games for donkeys?

Connolly RB. Pennington or Jags at CB next to Stones.

Baines or Oviedo left back.

Got to be Baines, Oviedo doesn't look fit to me and concerned to hear Martinez say he'd lost weight after being in hospital.

There's so many things I'd try before starting hibbert at right back. I'd certainly not be against given young Pennington a go. What is there to lose? He certainly will play with heart.

Sake I'd play Barry at left back and move Baines to Right back before I'd play Hibbert.

I will admit that there's no great options here and it's a mess. But there's no worse ideas than playing an over the hill Hibbert who was torn a new one at Wembley on the big pitch 7 years ago. Yes he was finished 7 years ago.

People can't be serious about Hibbert, this is Wembley with the prospect of extra time ( I'm an optimist by nature) , he's had 45 mins game time in the past 4 months, so let's end it now , even Martinez is not that stupid.( told you I was an optimist) .
Pennington will do just fine if given a chance, he's a young Jagielka, steady , won't do anything rash so good foil for Stones and knows how to lump the ball upfield if need be. My real worry is he doesn't get any game time this weekend and all that's happened is we've interrupted/ ended a promising loan spell at Walsall who could get a promotion play off place. That would be criminal.
