Couldn't be more Everton.

Need a little of this on the pitch...Get little tacker on FFS!!!

What's becoming clearer and clearer to me is that we need a new centre forward or we need to see how Anichebe/Mirallas fair in that role. This is why it's very unfortunate Anichebe wasn't fit for tonight because I'm almost certain Martinez wanted to see what he was capable of in his system at a competitive level. From what I've seen of Kone, I wouldn't trust him when it comes down to finishing, but I do think he'd be effective as a creative player out in his wide role. If Anichebe is fit for the weekend, I'd really like us to try this:

Conversion aside, I'm genuinely impressed by how quickly Martinez is implementing his philosophy. If we were converting our chances we wouldn't see half of the complaints that are popping up in here.

We are slower but I personally find that more interesting to watch and there's more to absorb from our games now.

Positives:

For the third match in a row, Everton completely dominates the opposition in the possession category.

Negatives:

For the third match in a row, Everton's dominating possession counts for nothing.

I didn't think we were that bad to be honest, Martinez's comments were about right. Good in two thirds but poor in the one that counts the most. Our movement up front needs to improve big time, it's something we've always struggled with, Pienaar is the only player in the squad that genuinely knows how to find space in the area. There was one instance in the second half when Barks was running around just outside the box trying to beat about five players, Kone, Naismith and Osman all in front of him standing still. It's like they all think that it's only worth making a run if you're going to get the ball, poor stuff.

Hopefully things like that will improve with more coaching time, I think we have a solid platform at the moment, perhaps lacking a bit in aggression but the overall control of the games has been good.

Good points and I noticed that too where Barkley was probing but really nothing happening in front of him. Easy to defend really.

Totally freaked out about Osman after reading this.

Excited to not be traveling any more after a month of August where I was on the road more than at home so that I can finally watch some games.

COYB - make my weekend worthwhile!

It's the start of the 10/11 season all over again.

Important we get a few wins over the coming weeks or it'll get difficult to sell this new philosophy to the fans.

This! We see it in every game, there is no one making runs or giving options. They just stand in front of defenders and wait for the ball to go out wide for a cross. Drives me crazy.

Yep.

And I'd be marginally ok with that possession if it meant that the opposition didn't score against us and we were keeping clean sheets but Norwich got two on us and Stevenage one.

Not exactly keeping the ball from them are we?

Didn't hear any boos for Fellaini from the Paddock, got a nice greeting as he entered the pitch, after a round of applause for Barkley.

Was impressed with Stones, Kid Barca and Barkley - though I thought the latter two visibly tired towards the end.

We dominated possession, but movement up top and final ball/shots leave a lot to be desired at the moment.

We should see some exciting attacking football this season with Deulofeu, Mirallas, Coleman (and hopefully Baines) on the flanks. Think we desperately need an extra attacking option.

The important thing is we went through.

Exactly, if your domination of possession isn't reflected in the scoreline then it's a pointless stat.

It's almost became ingrained in Evertonians that we get the ball forward quickly and into the box, fans around me tonight became restless with the patient build up and that'll continue to happen until the results come. Win games with the new style of play and there won't be any dissenting voices though.
