Been our undoing for a couple of years. We've rightly earned a fearsome reputation at home so you get managers like clarke and laudrup blatantly playing for the point at goodison.

This. Can of blame them though? 3 defeats at home since the beginning of January 2012.

Like I say, if we can score early, then it'll be a different ball game. It might be worth us going direct for the first 5 minutes, steam rollering the opposition and then reverting to possession football with (hopefully) a one goal lead.

- think the speed'll come with familliarity, but there's a lack of connectivity in the last 3rd too when we did play with speed.

We should fair better when teams play higher up the pitch against us and we can then counter providing we can move the ball quicker on the counter but your point is well taken in terms of familliarity and connectivity but we seem to lack a Plan B when Plan A is not working.

The experiment continues, umpteen changes but already fringe players from the previous regime are growing into proper players Barkley's development has been exponential and you can see potential in Oviedo and Stones.

Kone needs to buck his ideas up and Naismith's chasing and scrapping (in part because of his own poor touch) won't fit and poor old Ossie needs to accept he's a squad player now.

Unbeaten, through to the next round and playing football, considering he doesn't know what players he has not too shabby.

What we need to remember is that we're taking one step backwards to go two steps forward.

It WILL work given time.

Liverpool were taken to extra time last night , these things happen at the early stages of a competition like this.
We made eight changes and still struggled through.
This is a long process and if you cannot accept that, then you are going to get stressed on a regular basis.

That was awful .to slow no penetration going forward to easy due to the tempo to counter .boring as well hope it was just one of those nights.we need. A couple of midfielders or we will struggle to get. results.

Yep, not an easy one though, they're not going to become familiar when they can opt out with a hoof-and-chase, and yet we don't want Martinez to be too dogmatic...

The Chelsea game will be a very good indicator for us in terms of our system and players in terms of the early season progress against a title contender. I am not expecting a win but should be interesting to see how we cope with more or the less the same players in a new system.

the chance Fellaini scored from is the sort of chance we should be forcing and creating from minute one of a match. Ball in the box, players in the box, players having shooting chances from the box or around the box. We controlled the match but didn't create those sort of chances very often at all.

We'll never likely see a midfield of Osman and Heitinga again.
Kone can only get better.
Were through to the next round.

Things Kone get better. He'll sharpen up soon enough.

Hope Martinez plans a couple of value signings to gel things in how he wants the team to play. Not properly igniting yet.

I think MF gives us a sort of Plan B with a direct option, if the lad is off then he will need to go into the market and get a player who can give him the option up front.
