I knew because playing 11 a side as a kid no one could take a throw without everyone in and around the pitch shouting 'LADS YOU CAN'T BE OFFSIDE FROM A THROW LADS'. Every. Single. Time.

Think everyone knows that one.

Did you seriously not know that

Eh No that’s why I posted it. If you look at every play from a long goal kick all the forwards seem intent on staying onside. Why doesn’t someone like allerdyce have a forward on the opposition box every time ?

The chances of a goal kick going all the way through to the penalty area is very remote, it is more likely to have a flick on, in which case you would be offside. More effective would be stay with the last man then after a flick on, you just have a foot race against the defender which is more likely to lead to a goal.

Well kind of.

But most of the time the ball will land on the head of the CB, if by some chance a player wins the header from your team, your offside, basically its a terrible idea, unless you had a Keeper that could constantly hit the oppo penalty box from a goal kick, I wish people luck with this search.

tbf, we do have the keeper to pull this off because his long kicking accuracy is great imo. But yeah, would would probably need two strikers and one of them to be a great header of the ball. Unless you do a flat kick similar to rooney's goal v west ham, but that would require the centre back to be a donkey.

Why can i envisage michael keane being totally undone by something like this?

2 things seen fairly regularly in the dying minutes of matches where a team needs a goal (a) Goalkeepers going up for last minute corners. (b) Goalkicks wellied as far as is humanly possible.

Amazed at the lack of knowledge on here - has anyone actually played football ? I am sure coaches over the years have never ever thought of just standing in the area and hoofing it forward from a goal kick, takes experts on here to show them the way.

Maybe some people have more in their lives than studying the rules of what 22 millionaires are allowed to do on a bit of grass

I had no awareness of this rule - probably because in the 30 years of watching football i've never once seen another goal where this was even called into discussion?!

I was on about people playing the game not watching, 30 years of watching football you have never seen this ?

I played a friendly a couple of weeks ago and during the game this subject came up, i was telling our defence just to be careful about the striker getting in behind cause you can't be offside from a goal kick. One of the opposition teams players queried it and asked the ref, and i swear he said you can. I meant to ask him after the game but forgot all about it.

It always amazes me when so many people involved in football don't actually know the basic rules of the game. Fans is annoying but understandable, but actual pundits who played at the top level and get paid to talk about it is just crazy.

El craptain Phil Neville said on motd2 that it'll be our year this year. Followed by him dissociating himself saying 'I was going to say our year, but no, Evertons year.'

I think one thing this forum has definitely lacked over the years are graphs and pie charts explaining these things.
