No mate, plenty of people think the same.

Thing is though, we're not a rich club who can afford to rebuild a squad more or less from scratch every time the manager changes so we have to be a bit cleverer with what we've got. We'll have some money to spend in the Summer and hopefully next season we'll see two or three youngsters coming through as well. I'm not convinced that Martinez is about to turn us into a club regularly challenging for Champions League but equally, I'm not convinced there's an obvious better choice.

End of the day, if we're not there, or thereabouts, in contention for a Europa League place next season then the board need to have a serious think about the situation.

Yeah, if you look at how we've competed with richer clubs over the last decade the reason is we don't change our players much.

Tim Cahill was our attacking midfielder for years. We didn't have to try aquilani and when he didn't work try for bellamy, etc.

Getting positions wrong is expensive. Getting positions right is cheap.

If patience will mean that baines will come good or coleman will come good or martinez will come good then it's better to stick with them rather than bring in someone else at a cost, and pay for both wages, etc.

There comes a point when someone obviously isn't going to come good and it's just a sunk cost that you have to change but I don't think we're there yet with martinez. He's certainly got something about him, you don't win an fa cup with wigan and have us storming the league lats year unless you have some potential as a manager.

Someone said earlier that Harry Catterick started his managerial career in 1958 at Sheffield Wednesday. He didn't. He was manager of Rochdale and Crewe for many years before that.

No mention in Wiki mate of Rochdale but just found Crewe but no idea how long there, if I am wrong then no doubt Dave will jump on me.

Avoiding the point Dave, it goes back to the subject of how long where they a manager before taking over at Everton compared to RM's 7 years! You brought up how hard it was for RM to come to a big stature club, I just pointed out others had less time and less edperience.
It was a relevant answer because the era's they managed in were far less pressurized without a media pack of wolves prowling around for quarry at the first sign a manager might be overseeing a slide. Kendall would defo have been blown off course and eventually sacked if he'd have had to put up with this lot.

why peeps are talking like there wouldnt be anything left to fight for in this season?

if we ever would have been able to compete in europe it would be now when theres no other "distractions"

We're a couple of wins away from being able to feel totally comfortable with our league position.

If we can get past Bern and take four points from Leicester and Stoke then we're close enough to be able to make Europa League our priority. I don't have any concerns about us getting relegated, but money talks, so making totally sure we stay up is our immediate priority.

is right. what i said a few weeks back, we can concentrate on that fully now, rest players in the league etc. sadly i don't think martinez will do that, but i can't think many of the others competing for europa will be able to do that.

we won't get relegated before anyone says that.

I do not think we face the drop, I have said that before, I am concerned with our performances and a manger who seems incapable of addressing the problems. RM needs to get the team winning and move up the table. not just for Euro but the league place higher we are the more money the club will receive.

I just can't see that team out there being good enough to win in europe.

I'd love to be wrong but we look so bad, young boys muts be licking their lips.

I mean this has literally been our worst season in the domestic cups in our entire history ever.

The Euro now is a knockout, home and away games, one never knows we had a certain amount of luck getting to this stage. Who knows lady fortunate might be there to help us and we come through. One thing for sure we will not be having the FA referees screwing us.

I wasn't a member on here at the time, so don't know what it was like on here, but I remember after the 2-2 against Arsenal there were fans calling for him to be gone then, the disdain for him after Chelsea was ridiculous.

Remember the 0-0 vs west brom last year, his second ever game? I was sat in the lower gwaldys and there were fans starting on him, even back then.

yes ofcourse at the moment our priority is not to get sucked into the relegation battle. but i actually think we might peak just in the right moment concerning europe too...ive been saying since the start of the season that preseason "fiasco"wasnt actually fiasco. it was planned to be dud that our thin squad can peak later in the season. so prepare for the european glory nights ffs x...btw kopites clearly peaked too early. x

Young Boys aren't all that ( can't believe I just typed that ffs ).

Wouldn't surprise me if, with the pressure off and expectations low, we got a result on Thursday and then did enough at Goodison to get through. Even with my blue tinted specs on I can't see us winning the tournament though.
