Is it just me then thinking that two seasons is enough? Last season we chucked 4th spot away and there are others who think that period heralded the crap of this season. Okay give him time, the squad he has now is our best for some time then he should darn well get it playing to it's potential in the remaining games. We have 13 to play, how about saying if RM is any good as a manger then he should win at least half of what is left which would be 18/21 points. Then I will hold my hand up and admit I was wrong.

If both seasons were crap, yes.

When one season is very promising and one disapointing, you have a dilemna. Which is the real him, essentially? If you give him a third will you see another 2013-14 or another 2014-15?

And I think it's worth waiting to see, the gamble is worth it.

And, you know, we have been here before. Moyes first season we came 7th, the second we came 17th. We gave him a third and we came 4th.

No question of the records there but I think RM has a better squad now than our EX did back then and certainly a lot less money.

No mate, plenty of people think the same.

Thing is though, we're not a rich club who can afford to rebuild a squad more or less from scratch every time the manager changes so we have to be a bit cleverer with what we've got. We'll have some money to spend in the Summer and hopefully next season we'll see two or three youngsters coming through as well. I'm not convinced that Martinez is about to turn us into a club regularly challenging for Champions League but equally, I'm not convinced there's an obvious better choice.

End of the day, if we're not there, or thereabouts, in contention for a Europa League place next season then the board need to have a serious think about the situation.

Still don't buy it Dave. Take note.

Harry Catterick started management at Sheffield Wednesday in 1958 his first job. Moved to Everton in 1961, 3 years gap!

Howard Kendall started as plyer manager at Blackburn Rovers in 1979. Moved to Everton as player manager in 1981, 2 year gap, became full time manager in 1984.

No where near as long as RM before managing Everton in both cases.
They'd have both been sacked in season two if you and the rest of the kneejerkers had had anything to do with it!!

Pretty much agree with all of this.

We could bin Martinez and give the job to someone else who'd need time to bed in his own ideas, or we give Martinez the benefit of the doubt, write this season off as a bad job and see if we get an improvement next season. If there are no signs of improvement next season then that's the time to change things at the the top, otherwise we'll end up on a manager merry go round.

All other things being equal, I'd give Martinez till May 2016 to show he's on the ball with the job.
Defo.

In fact, I think by the time 2015 rolls along we'll see some major improvement. Three months worth of football to come, and that's about the same period of real doom and gloom we've had to endure. An upturn in our form and results can settle things down even before we hit the summer break.

Fair and balanced.;)

Someone said earlier that Harry Catterick started his managerial career in 1958 at Sheffield Wednesday. He didn't. He was manager of Rochdale and Crewe for many years before that.

why peeps are talking like there wouldnt be anything left to fight for in this season?

if we ever would have been able to compete in europe it would be now when theres no other "distractions"

Avoiding the point Dave, it goes back to the subject of how long where they a manager before taking over at Everton compared to RM's 7 years! You brought up how hard it was for RM to come to a big stature club, I just pointed out others had less time and less edperience.
